Core Strength is essential in health & fitness, particularly as we age. People often mistake the 'core' for the abdominal region, when in fact it covers from the diaphragm downwards and also includes the lower back and glutes. The core not only protects the spine but allows us to move freely and without pain in everyday life i.e. bending, reaching and twisting.
Many core exercises can be performed incorrectly and often momentum takes over and therefore no real progression will be seen. Here's a video of my top core exercises that can be practiced and performed 3-5 times a week. Each movement should be slow and controlled with a deep breath for each repetition.
