Last year I phoned surgery for yet another UTI so needed ABs, dr asked me various questions and I said I am suffering with bloating so she called me in.  Wee test showed UTI but she did bloods too for CA125 and examination and also referred me for a scan.  I thought she was being over cautious but hearing your story Coldethyl confirms she's a good gp x

she sounds it- far better to be cautious and wrong than gung ho and wrong. They dub it the silent killer but hubby found an article in which leading specialist was "blaming" appalling survival rates on doctors not picking it up - there's been a huge push recently to get people and Gps to recognise and act on symptoms so all credit to your GP.

You're GP was excellent, Annie!  :)

Mine fobbed me off and told me my bloating and pain in tops of my legs was 'anxiety and IBS'. I phoned my old Gynaecologist myself in desperation, and he saw me immediately. I had a scan and the cyst with the solid portion was found. The rest you know.....xxxxx

That is scary ladies..... whilst I was on the phone to her about my UTI she asked a few times if I'd considered it could be ovarian cancer and I said not, it really hadn't ever although I'm aware of it I've ashamed to say I've never known the symptoms.

Weird you say Tempest about pains at top of thighs because I get discomfort there too but I put that down to my ongoing back problem x

Oh bless you heart, Annie! If you're worried, I'd ask to be referred to gynaecology. My ovaries weren't visible until they did CT scans previously. When I had the ultrasound for the cyst the left one was clearly visible obviously because of the cyst, but prior to this my Gynae. couldnt locate them on the ultrasounds he did so he always sent me to Vale Of Leven Hospital for CT's to monitor things. I went approximately every 6 - 8 months because of my complex history, but missed one scan and then became symptomatic so that's why I called him as GP wasn't fussed despite my history. They can always refer you for a CT to see if they can 'find' your ovaries.

Try not to worry too much, but do speak to your GP.

Biggest hugs! xxxxx

I had my scan last September, they said my ovaries had shrunk and disintegrated as the blood supply was severed accidentally during my hysterectomy in 1999 x

It was ultrasound and CA125 came back completely normal.  Honestly I feel fine, I think for me the upper thigh discomfort is some sciatica from my back (actually just got an appt this morning for MSK assessment clinic) x

why not make an appointment for 2 weeks time and see how the bloating is then, and ask for a referral for a scan for peace of mind? It may well just last a few days after your period, I've had the same over the last few years. I suppose it depends on your A&E, but mine would just tell me to make a doctor's appointment in similar circumstances.

Has the weather been really warm where you are, as this could maybe have made the bloating worse? Drink loads of water and see if that makes a difference.

I'd get along to A and E, PB. They'll scan you while you're there - guaranteed (they always have me when ive had cyst symptoms)! I know you don't want to ,but it's what we have to resort to nowadays!

I've had umpteen surgeries over the years, PB - ectopic pregnancy, cysts, fibroids etc. I had hysterectomy aged 36 for bulky fibroids but kept ovaries. Cysts were a regular thing for me so I had to be continually monitored but when this last one contained solid matter, my Gynae. said it was time to remove them as risk increases with age (but that's just my history - I'm sure you'll be ok). But please DO get along to A and E. Trust me - I've seen folk there with much more minor things than this and you're not making a fuss!  xxxxx

I had weird leg pain with my tumour - I put it down to doing squats - it came and went so I never put it down to anything serious. Mine was an endometriosis cyst or cysts that had turned malignant - by time I was in system I had the worst leg pain ever. A ct scan revealed undiagnosed blood clots in lungs from a DVT due to impeded blood flow in groin from cysts.
PB - no one likes going to a and e but if you feel breathless you need checking out as this is a sign of possible pulmonary embolisms - they would rather you were fine and went than end up very poorly. I put so much of how rubbish I felt down to meno and anxiety and was encourages in this by a series of Gps and out of hrs visits - be assertive and don't be fobbed off.

Me too, Coldethyl. I had pain in upper thighs, and a weird 'trickling' sensation in my legs as well as a 'fluttering' sensation in my pelvic region. From years of cysts, I knew something was up and I was bloated too.

I was fobbed off by GP as having anxiety and IBS as I said - my Gynaecologist was NOT impressed when I told him! xxxxx

Hello me again with another worry or symptom of peri??? I didn't have a period for 63 days first missed one then had a heavy one for a week just finished but for the last 3 days I have a tummy so bloated I can't do my clothes up. Nothing has changed diet wise but when I get up it feels like I've had a 3 course meal and by mid afternoon I literally look 6 months pregnant!! It hurts too like cramps and making me breathless.  It's no worse after food but I've been trying gaviscon too to no avail. I have an overactive bladder anyway so I'm weeing all the time so no different there. I was curled up in the foetal position til 4am last night it was the only comfy position. I know bloating can be a peri symptom but this bad? Or ovarian issues ?? Being checked for lymphoma at the moment but hopefully all clear the signs look good but it has made me worried I'm putting this down to Peri when it could be ovarian?? Help please

Please see your GP if only to put your mind at rest x

Funny you mention the weird fluttering feeling. I've had that for years - i think it is linked to adhesions around my bladder from endometriosis - was terrible during pregnancy when everything stretched. Doctors are too ready to assign everything to anxiety. I was anxious but I also kept mentioning my irregular bleeding but no one seemed interested. That turned out to be the womb cancer which got me a scan !!
