someone has posted one of my all time favourites on Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeecXiqNzWAThis makes me so homesick and has always made me cry. It was written by Dan Heymann in Cape Town in the early 80s, a response to the state of emergency under apartheid. The great Vusi Mahlasela said it may well be the best South African song ever written. I saw them perform it live when I was a student in about 1982 I think.
And my brother wrote the words for this Christmas carol. It was written shortly after the end of apartheid, when everyone had such great hope for SA. A good friend of his (professional composer) wrote the music. I love it. I love this homespun Costa Rican choir's version most of all. Watch out for the dude in the hat
