Clovie that is exactly where we are going on holiday !!!  ;D (well not the San Fran part!) but we are doing LA (beach) and Vegas for 3 weeks in May

Goosie - Wow!  No way!  How spooky!!  ;D

We go on our holiday this Friday!!!  :o :o :o

Never ventured over that side of the US before, it has been a nightmare to plan, but should be fun - and I'm sure it will be a darned sight better now that I have my hormones sorted and I actually feel like going now!

Don't worry Goosie, 2 months back I felt like you do, I wasn't bothered about going on my holiday either. You've got a bit of time to get your hormones tweaked so that you'll hopefully be sorted and looking forward to your holiday too!  :)   :sunny: )

Take care x

Oh my goodness Friday!! How fab! I am putting the Utrogestan back each month by 5 days until the holiday so that I have the dreaded bleed out of the way before we go and I don't plan on taking any more Utro until we get home! Have a fantastic time and tell us all about it when you get back  ;D

I saw a consultant privately last week as previously I'd been given norethisterone as the progesterone to go with Evorel 50 and it made me very ill. After reading this thread I asked for Utrogestan, he gave me a private prescription for 200mg.

The pharmacist rang and asked if I wanted tablets or vaginal pessaries so I asked for pessaries after reading it reduces side effects. I've just read the leaflet and it doesn't mention their use as HRT it's only instructions for fertility. Have I been given the correct medication? Is it just not mentioning HRT as only the oral Utrogestan is now prescribed for HRT? Also do you think 12 days at 200mg is a high dose and should it be 100 when used vaginally?

lisa789 - Utrogestan is supposed to be used vaginally for fertility treatment and it is licensed to be used orally for HRT. In other countries it is used both ways for HRT use. I believe it is the same capsules used for both oral and vaginal. 200mg for 12 days is still the licensed dose whether used orally or vaginally.  I would seek the advice of your gynae if you want to use the lower dose.  The balance of oestrogen to progesterone is very important, so using a lower dose for fewer days may not ensure a proper shedding of the womb lining.
Hopefully EnglishRose is under supervision of a doctor with her regime, as using 100mg Utrogestan for only 7 days could cause problematic bleeding - I'm sure she will be getting regular scans.
I would use the prescribed dose your gynae has given you. DG x

Thanks DancingGirl I'm going to try the 200mg and see how I get on, surely it can't be any worse than the norethisterone. Haven't felt as ill as that made me in a long time xx

Ah Goosieloosie- feeling like you today! I got excited on my higher dose of etrogel and my swings weren't as bad until.. just before the withdrawal bleed and then last night (day 4- the bleed had stopped)- and bam!- the most awful swing down into the abyss- crying and exhaustion. Am on the floor today! Argghhh!!!!!!

Is there a way to avoid the crash before and after a bleed I wonder? I thought on my higher dose of 1.5- or 1.75 that I could avoid it or at least minimize it.

Have also noticed on the higher dose that i have gained a bit of weight and digestive system is struggling.

Maybe I need to try continuous again?

I bloomin hate this! Can't function properly.  :(

Hi catlike - I'm not sure what crash you are talking about - but if you are taking estrogel every day then your oestrogen levels are fairly constant - unless you have your own hormones going on in the background - but as you say with a high dose you won't dip down very far. You will still get the progesterone withdrawal symptoms before your bleed though so this could be partly what you are noticing, which is normal pms?

Hi Hurdity

Yes the prog withdrawal before the bleed I understand. But when my bleed finished I got another one on day 4- last night and into today!

I had this previously before hrt. Always a very low day after my period. Perhaps it's just as you say, my own hormones are still in a cycle.... so when period is finished both the hormones are low anyway- so the e dose is just not strong enough to counteract the dip down? Still in peri land and not fully into meno? Who knows? I'm coming out of it now but it's been a horrible 24 hours. Maybe i need to increase a bit more on those really low days? Up to 3 pumps? I'm only allowing myself to go up to approx 1.75mg at present. Well that's what I took yesterday (the extra in the eve) and it had zero affect.

Have a phone appointment on Friday with my GP lady who prescribed for me so will see what she says.

Am wondering now.. if i were to be brave enough to stop all the hrt for a while and see what happens.

Is it possible that by taking the hrt in cyclic way that I am keeping myself in peri?  In other words- if I stopped and let my body do it's thing and was prepared to give it a bit of time maybe then if i went back on again the swings may have levelled out- or rather my own rhythm may have flat lined a bit more? So in other words- is it possible that by taking the hrt in cyclic way that i am stalling my own menopause? Hmmm??  8)

catlike -  HRT won't be stopping the gradual decline of your hormones as you move through peri meno - it is meant to help alleviate the fluctuations but I don't think it always helps. I do think it can be worth taking a break from HRt now and again, if for no other reason than to see how you feel without HRT.  It would give you the opportunity to see where you are in your meno journey - you could talk this through with your GP or a nurse and ask if you could have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are after 4 weeks off HRT.  You can then reassess the situation and either start fresh or give yourself more time without HRT.
I am very post meno but I am doing a break from HRT at the moment to see if I can cope. I'm having some ups and downs - headaches being my worst symptom - but it is good to have this break. If I do go back on systemic HRT it will be for good reasons as I don't really want to be taking anything.  DG x

Hello
Just got my oestrogel and utogestan  ;D

I read somewhere that progesterone depletes estrogen so I was thinking of taking 2 pumps on the oestrogen only days and 3 or 4 with progesterone. My Dr said give it a go and see what works.

Anyone else trying a varied estrogel dosage on a regular basis rather than reactive?

Thanks

Three days on Estrogel, started with 2 pumps but had more night hot flushes and head ache so dropped down to one pump on second night. Had 2 days of feeling weepy and anxious.  I was thinking this isnt what i expected though I know i have to give it more time.  But now i am on on a full bleed which explains the anxiety I guess, but i shouldnt be for another 2 weeks.  Question is now when do I start the progesterone vaginally which i was supposed to start tomorrow?  I will ring the meno clinic on Monday but it usually takes a couple of days to respond.  Any advice please?  I don't know whether to just stop everything for a month and see what happens.

Thanks x
