Hi lizziejt

Sorrry - haven't looked at forum since Friday - just catching up. Re Utrogestan - I cannot say whether this will be enough. It is half the licensed dose which is 200 mg - but as you probably know the dose is one size fits all so lower doses of oestrogen may well not need such a high progesterone dose.

I would ask your medical practitioner about this in your case ie gynae or GP as it is not licensed.

Hi all,
I'm finding this regime 1-25 days Utrogestan and 2 pumps estrogel suits me well apart from anxiety symptoms. I wake early, feel tense and headachy, have negative thoughts. It calms through the day once i get on with things but am wondering whether an extra pump of gel on an evening would help or wait a while to have longer on this regime?

Hi jedigirl

Sorry to hear about your morning symptoms. Does your headache clear quickly or is it persistent? I can't remember whether you experienced these (anxiety) symptoms on the other HRT and if so when in the cycle? Therefore can't say whether it is due to the progesterone - ie intolerance, or low oestrogen which will cause anxiety and low mood. As I am not a gel user I can't advise but in principle I would see what if any bleed you get on this regime before increasing the dose - and do you think your doc will be sympathetic to your increasing the dose?

Do hope you feel generally better soon  :)

Hi Hurdity, thanks for reply, have had nasty cold so been bit off which probably explains the headaches this week. I also think I'm clenching my teeth through the night as they often go off very quickly. My teeth also seem more sensitive and on edge lately, weird!
Anxiety more settled the last few days so maybe my body settling more on the new hrt.
Thanks again x

Hi

Really going through a tough time at the moment. I am 56 and was told I HAD to reduce my HRT as I have been on it 5 years (various HRT) I was doing well on the oestrogel 3/4 pumps a day ith separate progesterone.

I tried Everal patch 50 for 4 weeks but felt really unwell therefore I have made the decision to go back on the gel. My recent oestradiol blood test was 269 pmol/L which in my opinion is not that high.

My question is due to my age - can I still use 3/4 pumps of gel if it controls my symptoms???

I do rely on your experiences  :)

I am 59 and have been on and off HRt for over 20 years and my gynae said I could go up to 3 pumps per day.  Your oestrogen levels are low and you are still young so your GP is wrong to insist you keep to such a low dose unless you have other health problems that prevent you using HRT.
I'd print off the latest BMS guidelines from this site and show the GP.  Even beyond 60 the benefits of HRt can outweight any risks and transdermal as you are using is preferred.
Good luck  Dg x

Thanks DG - It's good to know you are a similar age and using 3 pumps of gel. I keep being told at my age (56) I should reduce. I know my own body and in my opinion at my peak of menopause having more intense symptoms. Therefore I would think more not less oestrodol is required.

When I get to 60 surly that will be the time to start reducing????

Just been into town shopping and the sweats are horrendous. I have also started to feel a bit off balance again. these were the symptoms I first got 5 years ago when I started with peri.

Hi I know you ladies are on a similar regime to what Iam about to start on so can you give me any input about these levels like do they sound right ( ish )
Month one take 1mg estrogen only
Month two take 2 mg estrogen only
Month three depending on which I felt best on either 1 or 2 mg estrogen with 200mgs twice daily uterogeaston for last 12 days of said month (vaginally) .
I'm on femoston conti at present but not doing well with it ,I suspect it's the constant progesterone albeit a small dose 1/5 .
Also when I stop femoston ie. No progesterone will I have a bleed ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Ye agree sounds far too high. I would think 200mg would be the recommended dose.

Good luck W

Well it's not that high really - 200 mg orally for 12 days per 28 is the licensed dose - although the oestrogen dose that this is supposed to oppose is not given so it is a bit of a one size fits all approach. Those who are prescribed it vaginally by specialists tend to get given a lower amount if they are progesterone intolerant - but lining is monitored through regular scans.

I reckon on being able to go around twice as long without progesterone by taking it vaginally (there is a little research on this) - so I use 200 mg vaginally 12 days every 5 - 8 weeks, which means I am going just over 3 to just over 6 weeks on oestrogen only. I am on 50 mcg Estradot. 8 weeks may be pushing it a bit on this dose for me.

If you are on a 12 week cycle then you are going just over 10 weeks on oestrogen only but how much you need will depend on how much of the oestrogen is absorbed.  If it's a full 3 months then that's just over 11 weeks on oestrogen only. Your gynae will want to ensure that the lining is shed and there doesn't seem to be as much research about precise doses of progesterone with different oestrogen doses especially transdermal oestrogen.

I'm sure he has his reasons - the above being likely - but if you ended up being intolerant to it then perhaps 300 mg is a possibility?

Pharmaceutically, it sounds correct, but thinking, it must be a bit of a shock to the system, a sudden overload of progesterone, wondering, out of interest sake, if taking 400mg as opposed to 200mg would make any difference on the amount of lining being shed? :-\

Thanks for the comments/input ladies I will mention it that it seems a bit high as I said maybe he thought it better to shed the lining :-\
Forgot to say the estrogen will be taken orally as he hasn't mentioned having it in gel form maybe I will ask him about that as well. X

Hi Warwick

I am 56 and 5 years into meno symptoms which hit me like a train all at once. Various hrts and am currently on estrogel 2 pumps and 100mg utrogestan continuously. After never getting it right and seeing just about every medical person known to man I ended up seeing Nick Panay in London. I am seeing him again in April as he is monitoring a fibroid and small cyst on my ovary.

I am also struggling at the moment - have a feeling of tight band around my head, tingling all over head and neck, feeling dizzy, dry eyes, unable to concentrate, and fed up with the whole thing really. I am concerned about increasing estrogen as may affect fibroid and cyst. Worries me a lot about hrt being stopped as not sure if I could function.

Sorry this is not very positive but I am the same age as you so may help.
