Hi Meno Lesley - we are the same age and appear to have the same symptoms. feeling dizzy off balance is one of my worse symptoms, this was also the first symptom I got going into peri at 48. I feel like I have flu, clammy but at times hot and sweaty (esp during the night)

Also - mornings have become a real nightmare after sweating during the night.  I wake up with a churning stomach and feel very depressed, get better as the day goes on. My opinion is I have reached menopause with full on symptoms and I need more estogion. GP does not agree so I am looking for a good Gyne to see privately in the Northwest.

Hi

Totally agree and remember a couple of years ago in the midst of changing hrt again the doctor upped my dose from 1mg to 2mg and the tight feeling in my head went straight away. I do wonder if the progesterone stops the estrogen having full effect - read somewhere about receptors being blocked. Do wonder if this will ever end??

Jedigirl - don't despair you're still going to get blips - I do after 15 months of real tic calm on hrt! I still get he odd spell of 4-5 days where I feel so crappy - now though,I don't panic - I know what,it is (suspect,it's my own hormones playing,up) and just make a note to take it easy for a few days!

Thank you Suzyq,
Have just returned from the GPs. He offered to up my anxiety meds(!) despite me saying my anxiety was under control and gave me some Lansoprozole because I said my stomach and bowels were upset. I know its hormonal but when i asked him about this he said "Yes your hormones are unbalanced but you dont want to increase estrogen because of the cancer risks" Sigh.
He did check for UTI while i was there as i had lower back rib pain but all was well. My husband who I took for support asked him while i was doing sample if i was young to be in menopause and he said " Not in the uk, no, and your wife is very lean!!"
Hubby turned to me when we left and said "Is it always like that?!"
I suspect yr right that my own hormones are wrestling with hrt.
Thanks for chat  :)

Hi jedigirl

I seem to remember that you are in peri and your periods are fairly regular - is that right?

If so the HRT isn't enough to suppress your own hormones so you are bound to get times when you don't feel right! it will stop the extreme dips, but now an again if your levels of oestrogen or progesterone rise suddenly, despite the HRT - then you could well experience side effects.

Also could it be a bug since you are feeling cold as well as sick and achey - don't be quick to blame HRT on any symptoms you might experience?!

When do you take the Utrogestan? Taking it before bed is recommended to minimise side effects.

Heavens - the docs are too free with their anxiety meds aren't they!

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Hurdity

Thanks for reply, yes I'm peri, suspect for a few years now. Periods before hrt(6 months or so) were mostly regular but very light. Now they barely last two days and are still light. I don't think its a bug, have felt similar to this before, always after a period .
I did suspect my own hormones are probably battling against hrt.
I do take the utrogestan at night but orally. I remember you insert yours? Im interested in this as wonder if will help avoid digestive problems as much. Do you tyhink there would be any settling in time taking this way instead?
Thank you x

Hi jedigirl and dazned

Re vaginal Utrogestan. It does seem to affect me differently - sometimes it barely affects me at all. This time ( just finished a course and now on my bleed) I had morning fatigue ( more than usual) and fuzzy head from the start and 3 day migraine last weekend (could have been exacerbated by v small drink I had which doesn't seem to go well with prog and me!). Once the migraine had gone I've just felt tired. I didn't get the prog crash pmt this time either. Weird.

Tiredness is the main symptom for me, and usually increasing brain fuzziness, and the occasional migraine. Maybe I sometimes feel a bit dizzy in the morning but not sure if thatls due to the Utro or just me generally?

I usually try to make sure I increase the dose of the vaginal oestrogen ( Vagifem or Gynest ) for a week beforehand with the idea that it will prevent so much systemic absorption - this might be just in my head though!

If you are not severely prog intolerant this should be all you get - progesterone is a sedative and at high doses can have a depressive effect which some find debilitating. It doesn't have that effect on me though - just the tiredness which is fine. Nothing's perfect!! It needs to be at high doses so that enough gets to the uterus.

Vaginal utrogestan shouldn't have any effect on your digestive system beyond possible general systemic effects of progesterone as a muscle relaxant - well I wouldn't have thought so.

I'm sure others will be along with accounts of thier side effects - but really best not to worry unduly and maintain a positive outlook and just get on with it if you can!

Also I forgot that I tend to have to get up in the night to pee when I am on it, although with judicious avoidance of drinks in the evening, and coupled with my general tiredness sometimes I can sleep through. It tends to affect my bladder a bit more, generally so have to go more often in the day too.

Now and again I get irritation at verytop of labia when I'm using it ( didn't this time) so use an anti-fungal to deal with this.

None of these side effects are major for me though - apart from when I get the migraines as I hate these!

Hi
Have just picked up this topic,  very interested as I have been using estrogel and utrogestan and have been trying several different regimes, trying to find the best, safest to suit me regarding side effects etc, I have posted asking questions on the main board a few times,  and have had a good read here this morning,

I have been thinking that instead of going 10 weeks before using 12 days utrogestron making 12 weeks in total could I take it starting on the 9 th week seem to remember the specialist saying I could put it in the month anywhere as long as I had a bleed .

Hurdity ,anyone ??

Hi dazned - not clear what you mean? if you are saying you intend to make your cycle a bit shorter - then that's obviously a good thing re your womb lining, because it will slightly decrease the possibility of the lining over thickening and then breakthrough bleeding occurring at the "wrong" time ?? So do you mean you will make your cycle 11 weeks in total instead of 12?

It's always OK to make the cycle shorter - it's when women decide off their own bat to make it longer without proper supervision regarding progesterone dose and perhpas a scan that there could be problems.

Yes sorry if I wasnt clear  :-\

Wanted to take the utrogestron 2 weeks earlier so that I only use estrogen only for 8 weeks instead of 10 weeks ,so I would then take e only for 8 weeks then 12 days e and utrogeston Irealise this would be a strange cycle but thought it would be better than going 12 weeks without bleed although specialist was happy for long cycle. I just wanted to see how I went on utrogeston as after bleed Im considering a trial without hrt. My anxiety, palps, etc have been addressed favorably now with Ads which were my worst symptoms ,my aches and joint pains have become worse despite the estrogen so was thinking to try without,I can always go back on if I am worse without.
