I wouldn't have known without your explanation Ayesha.  I'd have wasted away. I have to be cautious with the frequency of vagifem but I've used ovestin/estriol nightly for 9 months and it's helped. I don't have irritation or discomfort. I wish I'd known sooner  though.

I would definitely consider the thrush option - I personally didn't bother with testing when I got a sudden onset of atrocious burning etc and no systemic or local E2 helped. I bought an otc kit with a cream and capsule and it gave almost immediate relief.

After almost 10 years I'm hopefully on the way to the end but for me these last parts are a nightmare and not sure if anyone else is either going through the same or gone through. Since Easter when I had the last thing I would recognise as a period I've had days free of everything and days where I will wipe for there to be brown or dark when I wipe. Usually happens at the same time as my back starts aching, then it will vanish again. I think it's teasing me, oh its gone just to pop up again sometime. I don't know about anybody else but feel like I can never not wear a liner just incase, although it never goes on it

I use Estrogel and i shower in the evening apply two pumps one on each inner thigh apply two in the same place in the morning I don’t shower before the morning dose , it doesn’t affect the way it works ,you don’t need to shower before each application unless you are using moisturiser or any kind of creams .

It's best to apply gel AM and PM to keep levels as even as possible. So split your dose between AM and PM.

(I do 5 pumps AM and another 5 PM.)

I thought this is no longer advised (due to equilibrium reached between skin reservoir and concentration in blood)? I did read somewhere though can't remember where?

Hurdity x

I do AM and PM. Have I missed something in the guidelines?
What is the issue with splitting the dose, can someone please elaborate?

Are we in the minority here, the women who reach out to forums looking for answers. I am still mindful of my new GP who said it is rare to need both treatments, Estriol & Vagifem, if that's in his experience I have to respect that, with my previous GP being a gynae, it made life so easy with no issues to prescribing both to be used daily.  Will say though, once I explained fully in a calm manner exactly how I use the Estriol there was no problem with me getting the prescription, perhaps a different story if I was on any other form of HRT, it might have been more difficult to obtain.
This is a condition that we ourselves have to be in control of because there is so little known about it, and it doesn't help that the leaflet attached is out of date which doesn't help our cause at all!

My advice from now on once you get your VA regime under way, don't mess around with it. Yesterday I had to apply three doses of Estriol to get my symptoms  back under control which is much better today thankfully.

Hi Hopeful,

Sorry you are too and yes, let's hope so.
Are you under a meno clinic or your GP? I'm due for annual clinic consult in about a fortnight so hopefully get a better understanding then. I'm pretty sure our bodies must be throwing out different amounts of estradiol at different times, which, coupled with the gel, can produce some steep variations and a broad range of readings. I'm not overly concerned with the fact it's a high number per se ( ie cancer risk) but am concerned with feeling so horrendously exhausted at random times, which I'm convinced is linked. Plus the bonus chin acne!!!!
What symptoms do you notice if any when your reading is high? Xx

That's the way I did it (thighs). It's possible you'll get a slightly reduced dose though. I didn't notice any difference but perhaps that's because I was asleep  ???.

Sorry I think what I meant to ask is can you reapply over the same area in the pm without showering first?

So if I've put gel on both arms in morning can I put it on the arms again in the evening or need to shower first?

But I'd rather do am and pm and cos of back problems I only like to do my arms ... so would I then shower in pm before my next gels?
