Morning.  Buy a copy of "Me and My Menopausal Vagina", read then pass on with notes in the margins ;-).  It's about time that GPs began listening to women!

With 'ovestin' I can smear a little around the outer labia area when necessary or I use KY Jelly without problems.

It mayB the residue of the product rather than the active ingredient.  With 'ovestin' I have no problems, although I've been using VA treatment for over 5 years so my vaginal walls are well plumped up = good absorption.

Hi I hope it's OK for me to share this. I'm not post menopausal (went 9 months without a period so was nearly there!) but was exploring the various forums.

There is a very interesting thread discussing whether Oestrogel is as effective as it used to be. I'm going to link it here: https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,67309.0.html in case that may be the issue for you with symptoms showing up again.

It's a long thread but worth a read. In summary though lots of women had been stable on it for years, then when the bottle shape changed, found their symptoms returned. Some had blood tests showing levels had dropped even though they'd increased dose. Many have since changed to a different product such as patches or Sandrena gel and have settled down again.

My GP kindly changed me to Sandrena yesterday because my bloods show lower levels than would be expected for the dose I'm on.

Best wishes.

Thank you all for your replies :) I have the coil in for 2.5 years.

2.5 years it should work perfectly for you.
I am surprised your doctor thinks that your symptoms are caused by low progesterone, because NHS does not recognise “estrogen dominance”, it always  low estrogen is blamed for causing the problems from NHS point of view.

Thanks for sharing your experience Dotty, so do you think with the gel the estrogen level was a lot higher than you’re now getting with the patch? It is so frustrating, the weight is all around my stomach and thighs which is not something I’ve ever had a problem with before. I do feel like I’ve aged loads facially in the 2 and a bit weeks since I stopped the patch though so I’m desperate to find something that works without making me chubby!

It shouldn't make any difference to how effective it is using morning or night, as I said its all about experimenting with what we are given.

My first request for Estroil cream and my usual Vagifem pessaries from my new surgery resulted in a phone call from them stating the GP said its very rare to use the two medications together. My first reaction was to say, the trouble is doctors don't know enough about the condition and one tube lasts me 3 to 4 months, it can sometimes be a fault being assertive but life has made me this way.
I rambled on to the hapless lady on the phone giving over my point of view and she said she would explain all to the doctor but needless to say I will not be getting the Estroil cream.

But then on reflection I have decided to stop the Estroil and see how I get on, perhaps I only needed it at first but not now and the only way to find out is to experiment. If I find I need to use it again, alongside Vagifem, I will buy it as I tube will last me a long time.

At my next review if I have to, I will bring the subject up and in the meantime gather as much evidence as I can on the treatment regarding Vaginal Atrophy for each individual woman and what her needs will be.

Have never tried it in the morning before.
It's the large applicator so not sure would it work/absorb as well ?

What about using it in the morning instead of night. No harm in trying but would suggest a panty liner would be needed. It really is all about experimenting until you find the solution to this pain in the bum condition!!
