Does anyone use Prasterone to control their vaginal atrophy instead of topical oestrogen?
I'm 66 and had VA diagnosed last August. I have vaginal soreness but my real problem symptom is the constant need to pee. I'm up 5 or 6 times each night and trying to have a normal life is impossible.
I use Vagirux internaly and estriol cream for the soreness but neither have improved the urinary frequency.
I've read that Prasterone ( DHEA) can be helpful for urinary problems so I'd be really interested on hearing your Personal experiences. Thanks.

Important question: how often are U using the products and adding that many do not get on with Vagirux which is cheaper to dispense than Vagifem.

Hi CLKD,
I was using Estriol for 3 months, but only on the prescribed twice weekly dose after the initial loading period.
I'm now starting on my 2nd month of Vagirux which I'm taking daily. I expected to see some consistant improvement by now but I'm relatively ok(ish) one day and then back to being utter rubbish the following day.
I follow a very healthy diet, cutting out any potential triggers, don't smoke or drink and try to keep fit...not easy now as I need to stay near a toilet all the time. I'm desparate and miserable which seems to be a common theme with this horrible condition.

As you are just starting your 2nd month you may need to give this more time & assess things after 3 or 4 months of use.

4 weeks use is likely not long enough but you do mention some days of improvement so that’s a start.

In the early days of my va testosterone stopped it but I had muscle weakness as well, presumably including weakness of the pelvic floor. If you don't I don't know if it will help but worth a try. Topical oestrogen twice a week didn't sort it out either. My GP wouldn't prescribe it more often so I have gone down the Newson route instead and use more systemic oestrogen than the NHS will allow me. Mine was continual leaking rather than urgency.

Yes, under control now but currently on 150 mcg oestrogen and tostran, no topical oestrogen. I can't remember accurately how long it took but I think about a month. Topical oestrogen didn't solve it for me but I was only allowed the daily loading dose for 2 weeks which wasn't enough, on 100mcg patch at the time. If your va is very bad sometimes the cream seems to absorb better than the pessaries.

I'm not on systemic hrt but I have another appointment at the end of this month so I'll discuss all my options then. Thank you

I've been using Prasterone for about 3 months and have definitely had some improvements with my bladder, that was until my oestrogen levels dropped (I'm on the e implant). Before Prasterone I was using Vagifem 5 nights a week as well as Ovestin externally. Since you take it every night it really helps with dryness. I would recommend giving it a try but you may also have to try and increase your oestrogen levels to get some control over your bladder. I hope you find some relief soon, it really is horrible.
