Nystatin alternatives?
« on: September 20, 2025, 05:32:27 PM »

Is there anyone who can advise me on whether there are any alternatives in the UK to vaginal nystatin pessaries please?

I have .. azole resistant Candida Krusei which is driving me mad and no doctor seems to know what to prescribe .. the nystatin is no longer available and I don’t know what to do next … GP has given me
Econazole but when I looked it up it said that wouldn’t help at all …

Thank you :-)

Sorry Nas - I meant to say, it’s a fluconazole resistant strain which is why the 6 month course I had hasn’t worked …

Ah okay,  Damm, that’s a nuisance. Have the medics come
up with any alternative for you?
Natural yoghurt? Tea tree oil?

Well that’s the strange thing - the lab report came up with nystatin pessaries but it’s impossible to get them.  They didn’t offer an alternative but my GP suggested Econazole but as far as I can find out it’s resistant to that one too - in fact any of the … azole family.

I see. What is it, intense thrush, which won’t resolve? There HAS to be a remedy, surely. Have gynae any thoughts?
