Popped into Tesco for a loaf, newspaper and cakes yesterday morning before work. Didn't use a basket as only wanted the 3 things so carried them to the self service checkouts. When I went to scan the loaf it didn't have a sticker so I had to wait for help from the assistant who was helping the man next to me. At first she was going to call someone then she asked me if I could remember how much the loaf was. I could, so she just entered the price for me and I paid. She asked me if I had seen the new "Scan as you Shop" area they have just installed where you pick up a scanner and scan your shopping as you go round then pay at special tills. We had a conversation about them and the man at the next till seemed really interested too.
I said Bye and walked out of the store and through the car park back to my car. I noticed a few "admiring" glances and thought I must be looking Ok. When I got back to my car and into the drivers seat, I saw my reflection in the dashboard.
Emblazoned on my left breast pocket was a large loaf barcode label for £1.00!
Surely the checkout assistant MUST have seen it - we chatted for quite a while. Or even the man at the next till - although he could hardly reach out and remove it could he?
When I told the girls at work they said I should have scanned my breast pocket.... "Unexpected item in bagging area"

So much for the admiring glances - I DID feel a nitwit.
