Do your frogs 'purr'?  There's more spawn out there this morning!

Well it's happened  >:(

Anglia Water has declared a hose pipe ban from next month  :cuss: but the next item on the news as about the new housing which is springing up all over the UK  :bang:

I will continue to fill up our ponds as necessary.  I will continue to top up the barrels as necessary.   When I have any energy I will carry the cold bath water down the stairs and out onto the garden, carefully so as not to fall down with the blasted watering can ........ we rarely wash our cars [only the day we buy them and the day before they are sold  ::) and I will continue to compose a letter in my head to the local MP about how ridiculous this all is ..............

Yes - how ridiculous that the world climate is changing and how dare it stop giving us the right amount of rainfall for the past two years  ;D

We have a ban too but it was to be expected and they have been talking about it for ages. I agree that new builds are going up all the time but where I live, at least, these houses are soon occupied so the demand is there and must be to do with the changing population. So many people prefer to live as singles nowadays that you need double the properties.

Sorry, what I meant was what's the problem with a hosepipe ban?  :-\ We haven't had much rain, we're short of water, surely it's the sensible thing to do?  ???

Nope - we had a shortage of water in 1975 and 76 and the water Authorities have done little to improve flow to households.  Garden owners are easy targets yet Golf Courses etc. can continue to use sprinklers  >:(.  There is a certain amount of 'loss' through pipe leakage because in general the water systems are very old but none of the Governments has considered de-salination plants.  Why should I note have water for my fruits and veg. when required?  Why does not the Government of the day insist on new builds having under-ground water tanks for storage?

You will have water for your fruit and veg though - it is just that you have to carry it rather than use a hosepipe surely?

What sort of underground water storage tanks do you mean?

Every Council property after the War had metal storage tanks in the back yard, with a lid on for drawing up all water for washing and if one was 'posh', flushing the loo.  A European Directive several years ago means that any new builds should have water storage tanks which take run off and grey water which is then used either for loo flushing [automatically] or for watering the garden.

yep I will be able to carry half a bucket at a time  ::) we have today moved one large barrel and piped the rain water already collected - which incidentally is still owned by the Water Company - from 2 holding barrels which collect from the shed when it does rain.  If I have the energy I will carry the water from the bath each morning, that is if Himself remembers not to pull the plug  ;D

No - I will have a look for the Little Owl.

For info about recycling grey water you can go to freewateruk.co.uk.  I think it costs around £5000 to install if you are interested!

Space is limited here for such schemes but systems should be included in ALL new build sites  >:(.

Chilly still.  Grey still.  Saw a sparrowhawk with it's kill yesterday afternoon, firstly I saw a whoosh as I drove down the road, heard the thud of contact followed by feathers everywhere: she sat glaring at me for ages before flying off with her evening meal  ::).  More spawn this morning.  2 wood pigeons pecking where I threw wild flower seeds yesterday, must get some wire laid over the area  ::)
