Every Council property after the War had metal storage tanks in the back yard, with a lid on for drawing up all water for washing and if one was 'posh', flushing the loo. A European Directive several years ago means that any new builds should have water storage tanks which take run off and grey water which is then used either for loo flushing [automatically] or for watering the garden.

we have today moved one large barrel and piped the rain water already collected - which incidentally is still owned by the Water Company - from 2 holding barrels which collect from the shed when it does rain. If I have the energy I will carry the water from the bath each morning, that is if Himself remembers not to pull the plug
