Can't see any tadpoles yet  :(

We have today planted a golden crab apple tree and new lavender plants after lots of digging and earth moving.  The weather is showery with a large black cloud headed our way; it's rained since Thursday  >:( ............ hopefully there won't be a gale which will lift new tree from the ground  :o

Hope the tree is ok!

I am just back from delivering a unfledged blackbird to the wildlife hospital.  Someone had taken it into our local vets as their cat had brought it in. Luckily there is only superficial damage to its right wing so, hopefully, it will make a good recovery and be released when it can fly. It was a chirpy little thing and we had really in depth conversations during our 25 mile journey together.  I forgot to tell it, though, that on arrival at the "hotel" he would have to endure the indignity of a thorough body search. Before dinner he would also have to have some rather nasty tasting medicine.  He opened his beak so wide for the paintbrush containing the metacam (which tastes like honey) and then again for the antibiotic which tastes horrible and he huddled in my palm giving me such a glare!  Never try to give the antibiotic first as you wont then get an open beak for the metacam!

Hopefully he will do fine. He gave me a very indignant chirrup when I left him all snuggled in his heated little bed! That was a good way to spend a couple of hours.

I tried a little on my tongue when I used to give it to one of my cats and the vet was right - it did taste like honey! My cat loved it!

Blackbird is doing well.

We have a pair of blackbirds that whistle gently from the almost in blossom cherry tree - they are waiting for live meal-worms.  I have to be quiet though 'cos the chooks make a racket when they see the tub and the starlings  ::) .......... I think the blackbirds have nestlings  :-*

I love  hearing the chirruping the young blackbirds make. Our lot are a bit daft - why they decided to park three under my forthysia bush when the garden is full of cats is beyond me! They all survived today and have been moved somewhere else now! I do think that it is a daft part of nature that they have to leave the nest so long before they can fly!

Probably they will attempt three. I don't think this link will work as it is facebook but I am giving it a go. If it does the baby blackbird is the one I had to take over to the hospital last week. He is doing very well https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=335569349832081&set=a.335566733165676.85416.116648618390823&type=1&theater

It worked!  He's a sweetie.  Our parents are calling gently every time they want feeding meal worms.  Himself and I have been busy pulling out celedines  >:( which have invaded our patch for years  ::) plus grass from under the Winter bird feeders, the chickens get that tied to their wire to peck at.  2 eggs from the quails!  Good day spent.

I'm opening the garden to the public soon  :o 8)

I have this picture in my head of your garden. If I lived nearer I would come to see if it was right  ;)

:thankyou:  you will be here when - so that I can put on the kettle  ;)

That plant "Jack" is pulled up from our garden as it seeds everywhere, had no idea it's related to garlic!

Lovely evening here though chilly.
