It was sad, she was from North Yorkshire. Hubby has been talking to his family who live in the south they can't get any fresh fruit or veg but up here in the north we have plenty, supermarkets & farm shops are well stocked well in my part of Yorkshire anyway! I just can't get loo roll, pasta (mainly for hubby & son, I don't eat it!) or rice and a few other things.

If our experience in Australia is anything to go by, the panic buying will calm down. It did require restrictions and some regulation changes. The travel bans along with restrictions hot rid of the main offenders (chinese).

Yes, some people can be selfish to the point of criminality.  I have been reading a lot of Australian news reports on this, as you seem to have experienced it first.  I haven't seen any mentioning Chinese in particular though. ???

They never mention the chinese issue for fear of being labelled racist. Prior to covid-19, they had daigou's hoarding our baby formula. The buses going into our country towns are organized buses full of chinese. The only way I can describe what they do is like a plague of locusts. Some of the rural supermarkets have now banned them and ID is required to prove you live in the area. They seem devoid of human compassion.

But didn't your PM stop flights in from China, right at the beginning of February??

No. We had 30,000 arrive via 3rd party countries. The universities were paying them to fly in as they are a huge percentage of our paying university students.

London and the South East is a bit of a mess at the moment. Dense population. Always was going to be the problem, both in terms of the virus itself and also issues around resources.

Lol, Yellow, you're not allowed to say that. Shady won't accept it. Oh, and it's just like the flu as well. Didn't you get that memo from the rural wilds of the unaffected.

Okay in Kent.  We have farm shops too and I've not had much trouble getting anything.  The only thing that took some hunting was paracetamol.

My son got some in Sainsburys, this afternoon.  Must admit I was surprised.

I've had the email from Sainsbury's that from Monday you can register as being vulnerable if they haven't already been identified from information they have. This will be a huge relief for me. I have had had difficulty getting delivery slots, none at all with Sainsbury's. I normally shop with Sainsbury's, but normally go shopping physically. I enjoy the trip. Im taking self isolation very seriously for the duration due to asthma complications with infection, requiring hospitalisation. We've run out of lots of stuff , as we couldn't get a delivery from anywhere until today. Waitrose. Hooray! However, they have put restrictions on the free from section. Only 5 items allowed. So I had to choose between GF flour, bread, pasta etc and naughty things like dairy free chocolate. They sell ombars which are healthy to eat apparently. I thought I would have to go chocolate cold turkey alongside DH who can't get his favourite beer!  ;D However, DH managed to get some on Amazon! Phew! This food intolerance is hard enough without restrictions. But this is a first world problem. How are they coping in countries with poorer infrastructure? Or even where my son lives in the USA where they don't have home delivery services from the supermarkets.

I have been registered with Waitrose online shopping for years, but only use it occasionally now.  Had an email from them yesterday saying they are prioritising the vulnerable and those self isolating.  We had already decided not to use the service for this reason but it's good they have made it official.

We exchanged phone numbers with neighbours yesterday, so if any one has to self isolate another can shop for them.

That must be such a relief to get home delivery  :) can I ask how do they know everyone is genuinely vulnerable, I really don't want this system to be overwhelmed with people claiming to need it when they don't.

I suppose for over 70s there will be age profiles on customer accounts.  Apart from that I don't know.  There will always be people prepared too cheat the system though.

Some supermarkets near Hospitals are asking medical staff to ring ahead to make up orders which can be collected so that they rerifie front line workers.  The box will Abe ready to pick up at the end of a shift.

Other stores are finding it difficult to cope with bullying shoppers with expressions like 'prove I'm over 70' being endured  :'(

We have had a chat with neighbours this morning and discussed what we have already in fridge, freezer, pantry and what might be missing from shelves. So will pick up for each other even when we don't need stuff ourselves.  We are sharing meat this week  ;D

I was talking to someone last week about paracetamol shortages and a woman overhead us. we both know her and she is a nurse and said ?just ask at your pharmacy, all pharmacies have stock.?
