Bladder twinges AFTER starting HRT
« on: April 23, 2019, 01:25:27 PM »

Ladies, after having one ovary removed 3 months ago, I had a couple of sharp twinges in my vag, enough to make me go ooh !! But had no issues in the bladder department (that I was aware of).
I started hrt (evorel sequi) on Thursday. On Friday, I had a really painful twinge in my vag, whilst driving. Then, since Sunday have felt a little uncomfortable in the bladder / urethra area.
Has anyone experienced this after starting hrt, and not before ?
I'm wondering if this is my girly bits responding to the hrt, that it's a good thing and things will settle in a few days / weeks? Or not ?
Thanks.

Hi Pants46...

Maybe it's an infection starting? Maybe get a sample dipped at docs.....
Could be the hrt too, I remember being able to feel something like I needed to wee when sitting in bed, just after I started  my hrt.....it's gone now....
Although, I still get twinges like period pain cramps periodically....must be the hrt working. ?

Thanks jillydoll. I think it might be an infection, as there are tiny white bits floating in my urine (tmi?). Yes, I have been peeing into a jam jar today.
The thing is, I have never had a uti, so don't know what it feels like. But I have had bladder cancer (with no symptoms, found by accident), so now I'm a bit panicky. Also, I'm overdue for my annual cystoscopy to check my bladder, I just couldn't face it after the oopherectomy and with my anxiety going crazy.
Can I buy a dip test at the local chemist ?
Will I have to take antibiotics if it is an uti ?

I had a mild recurrence of VA symptoms recently just after starting Evorel Conti not quite 2 weeks ago. I started to wonder about it but didn't think it was a UTI (the main reason for me starting Vagifem because I had had frequent ones). It has calmed down now. i think I may have used an extra Vagifem at the time to improve things.

Katejo, I don't have any Vagifem (or alternative), I didn't think I had any VA symptoms really, just a couple of twinges. And I knew that I was going to try HRT, so didn't worry about it too much. Of course, now I'm worried about it !!
Just been to the chemist, they didn't have a dip test I could buy. They did sell me CanesOasis Cystitis Relief though. Something else to take on top of everything else !!

Yes you will have to take antibiotics if it's an infection.
Don't know about a dip test over the counter, but given your history, I would definitely book in with the doc, just to make sure. ......If it clears up by then, then don't worry, a dip test doesn't take long.....and you'll have peace of mind.....
Good luck honey, let us know how you are.....xxx

Try an ibuprofen overnight and see if the symptoms come back. If they do, go to the GP but ask for the sample to be sent away for analysis. Don't rely on a negative dipstick. One thing I was told by the urogynaecologist very recently was that the dipstick is very unreliable. Even the lab test has weaknesses.

Kayejo. I'll try ibuprofen. Thanks. I've also just stocked up on vit c, cranberry juice and bicarb. A full on assault this evening. Although I don't fancy the cystitis relief stuff ... it's a really high dose of salt  :(

Pants I find the powder sachets work well for me. Is there a reason you cant have salt? If not why dont you try a powder tonight but you probably dont need bicarb as well.xxx

Thanks Tc. There's no reason I can't have salt. I just didn't fancy it. But I'll give it a go. xx

Test came back negative for infection. But sample is being sent to the lab. Am seeing my regular doctor later this afternoon.
Exhaustuon has hit again. Taken to my bed. Will have to catch up on work this evening.  >:(
