Testosterone question
« on: June 09, 2018, 10:03:28 AM »

morning ladies I've beem on the testosterone gel 2% for 6 days now,he recocommended half squirt for first week then 1 full squirt for next two months.ive been using a pea size squirt every second day rubbed on outer thigh.
I don't know if it's coincidence or not but I've had such a crap week,I'm waking very early feeling anxious and upset about nothing,my ankles are killing me and  bottom halves of legs feel week and achy,I feel really rat arsed which is not me at all.Im also crying at the drop of hat which again is not me.
Could this all be a side effect of T this early or not has anyone else on T had a quick reaction to it.Any thoughts welcome please xx

Hi Daisydot,

Sorry you're feeling so rubbish. I'm 8 weeks into testosterone use and haven't had the effects you mention. I react badly to lots of meds but have found the testosterone fine. Are those side effects listed on the patient leaflet that came with it? It might be a hormonal drop or surge rather than the testosterone

I've checked the leaflet with mine and it doesn't mention anything I long those lines. I'm obviously new to testosterone too but hopefully someone with more experience will be able to help more

Hi Robin that's why I was wondering as I'd not read or heard anything like this, maybe I'm just having a blip then, my stress levels are pretty high with everything that's been going on,I'm probably just being a ratty old git.I just want to give stuff a fair chance so if I know that's all it is I'd put up with it in the hope it settles I suppose.
Thanks anyway Robin much appreciated xx

Yes I never thought of that Dotty I just assumed I'd hit the right levels I've been trying so hard to keep everything to a minimum doseage because of my age,I'm not thinking straight just now I've got gp on Monday but know they'll be no help whatsoever so I'm just playing guessing games with myself.
Thanks Dotty xx

That's what I thought. That's part of how I feel when mines low.

It might also be because of the shock you had last week. Things like that affect us in many ways.

Are you on the lowest dose of estrogen Daisydot?  I needed a high dose before I saw any changes

I'm the same as Robin. 2 pumps of Oestrogel had no effect. I was very scared to increase it but I went up to 3 and then 3.5 pumps in the first month. I then went to 4 and that's when I started to feel better. I'm still on 4 and have been told not to change it. It's within the guidelines and it's perfectly safe to use 4.

Yes ladies I'm only on 1.5 he said to increase to 2 now I've started the T but I am a bit wary I have to be honest mainly because of my age and restarting it so late,I had a five year break which I so regret but bad advice from doctors not anything I'd done out of choice.
I thought I was doing ok but I know I'm not now as I'm googling health things again which I'd stopped doing and it starts that vicious cycle again doesent it.
Right ok I'll get my holiday over with next week and meantime I'll stick with the T and increase oesrtogel to 2.5 and hopefully that'll get my head back in the right place again, thank so much it's just lovely to have someone to bounce things off xx

Sounds like an excellent plan to me. I'm pretty certain that estrogen  needs to be at a good level for testosterone to do it's stuff and I think 2 pumps is still only a medium dose so shouldn't cause you a problem.

Have a lovely holiday

Hi Daisydot

I get the same symptoms but I don't think it's the T causing it and mine aren't daily.  I try to remember my omega and vit D daily but I'm rubbish at taking it but also ironically before reading your post I put 3 pumps oestrogel on instead of 2.5, thinking I may have reached a stage where more is better, I was reluctant to as when I was on estradot patches any increase left me a shakey wreck

I don't think I can cry easily now though. It's either the T or 10mg amitriptyline (but that's for nerve pain ) doing it, I ah e the emotions but the tears don't fall xx

Hi Daisydot. I'm so very sorry - you've had a truly rubbish time this last week!! What I can tell you is that stress lowers our hormones, most especially those we add in from outside. I think because your week has been hell, that this is really affecting you just now. Being unwell with flu and viruses does this too.

So - what the heck do we do about it? I've read a lot about this over at Hystersisters (those girls are masters at hormone balance) and you can 'stress dose' - but only if you really know yourself well and how you react to hormones. Tweaking can really throw things off balance! I guess the best thing to do is to try to limit the fall out and not add more stress and allow life to settle a bit - don't take on anything more right now. It's absolutely allowed!!

Annie, so sorry you're still getting some of these issues too! I think I will forever no matter how good my HRT may be due to ongoing health stuff and because I'm an infernal worrier. I remember when I was on amitriptyline (same dose as you) for a couple of years a good few years ago now following my spinal surgery that I felt a bit 'blunted' - but I didn't mind as it helped with anxiety which with hindsight started to become a problem after I had my hysterectomy at 36. Wish  had realised then that my hormones were probably on the skids even back then! xxxx
