Oh how I hate this symptom,  it's a constant battle to stop myself,  I feel as if I just can't fill my lungs properly,  and I know it's in my head because when I'm busy at work or otherwise occupied I don't do it,  but the second I think about it then it starts,  then I'm awake half the night with pain from trapped wind due to all the air gulping,  can't win  :(,  I do find when I'm "really" ill 🤒 all my meno symptoms seem to go,  as if my body and brain can only concentrate on one thing,  it's so strange. I can't have hrt so I've just got to plough through it  :'( xx

Hello ladies.

I've just returned to this thread and wanted to thank you for your comments.

Hurdity -  Yep, frustration is the word lol. I think my main problem is that none of the HRTs I have tried have succeeded in reducing my flushing so presumably the dose was never really  high enough. I began HRT when I was three years post meno and  the maximum oestrogen I  used was 50mcg via a patch but when I tried 75mcg I had problematic bleeding. I am now taking Tibolone which I understand is low dose anyway.  I feel stuck atm and will  see my GP in the new year and hope he has some ideas!

joyce21 - I agree that being absorbed with something helps. I  am also like this with the quivery, internal shaking in that I can distract myself for a while but that's hard to do 24/7.  I'm sorry that you can't take HRT but it doesn't always cure everything anyway as you can see from the many posts on this forum including my comments above lol!

Thanks again ladies and take care.

Hi Kathleen,

I also recognise the huffing and puffing and at the moment I'm on top of it. I joined https://www.walkingforhealth.org.uk/ and can find walks wherever we go. I started to do the couch to 5k nhs running programme and I take 5HTP supplements. I've noticed in the winter months I need to take more care of myself, lack of sun definitely makes a difference. My husband notices small changes before I do and lets me know so I can nip it in the bud. We go out somewhere nice together, do something out of the normal routine and have some fun. We've had the shortest day so Spring's on its way :)

Hi vickypk. I know we have been talking on another thread you have re: your GP issues but wanted to add to this one. I also retired to somewhere where I knew absolutely no one. I love crafts and went in to our local shop and asked if there was a group of ladies meeting up each week. There wasn't but the owner said that if I wanted to I could start a group up and we could use the upstairs in the shop each week. She started a list and when it got to four we began and we know have fourteen of us and it is great, we all do different things, knitting, card making, sewing, etc. etc and it is so nice. We are all of an age and so have a moan when we are down but usually feel a lot better for having gone and been with others once a week. From this some of us go to the cinema when there is a good film on or to other things. I also joined the W.I and again this has been great. You might find there is more than one of these. You do have to make an effort but it is worth it, I was exactly like you when we moved here six years ago but feel more settled now so be brave and give it a go.

I can totally sympathise as anxiety can do terrible things to your body. I got the simple advice to ' breath in pink, then breath out the black'. When I'm in a bad place I do this a good half a dozen times - in lovely candy floss pink then out all the black bad stuff. It is a good crutch when I feel out of control. Vicki - I really sympathise with you feeling low after moving.  We moved 13 years ago and are not happy where we are; my husband in particular, but can't sell the house so are stuck. Best thing I did recently is joined acommunity  choir. I can't sing very well but it is a lovely distracting thing to do and the people there are so lovely. I was very nervous for the first one but really look forward to it now. I think there is a national ' rock choir' who are in most towns which was featured on Radio 2 .
