Hello.  Thank you. So 170mcg is less the 100 mg? As I have been taking 100 mg of urogesteran every day so using the evorel conti will be less progesterone every day?

Well tonight is the night!! I start taking the Utrogestan for the very first time, I've decided to use it vagially 2 x 100mg for 12 days. I must admit I'm feeling a bit nervous! I've been absolutely fine & felt great using Oestrogen only (Estradot patch) that it seems such a shame to have to take any type of progesterone!!  :o Anyhoo, wish me luck and i will let you know how it goes as I never had much luck with the synthetic progestins  :(

I only use 100mg vaginally and I feel it has quite a kick.  Is there some reason you need 2 x 100mg vaginally?  Just concerned you may not be able to tolerate 200mg vaginally if you are sensitive .

200mg is the licensed dosage so one shouldn't deviate from this unless you are under the supervision of a gynae.

Sorry if this has probably been already answered somewhere on the forum, I haven't managed to track it down yet. I saw the lovely Dr Annie Evans a couple of weeks ago for the first time. She prescribed 1g sachet of estradiol and 100mg utro daily continuous. Its just that just about everyone only takes the utro for 7-10 days and I keep wondering why she would have put me on continuous.
Just wondered if anyone had any ideas please!

The doses are not comparable EnglishRose. Utrogestan is progesterone and breaks down quickly in the system so you need a higher dose. With the synthetic progestogens much lower doses are needed because they are more stable. You also can't compare what you take orally with patch progestogens because of some being lost to digestion when taken orally. The doses are worked out through trials, to do the same job - ie keep the womb lining thin. It's a bit of a crude measure and sometimes it is too little or too much for some women - but no need to worry about it!

No - not just about everyone newbeginnings! The members on here who do so, opt to take utrogestan on a cycle because they either don't like or are very sensitive to progesterone/progesterone intolerant. In the normal way of things you should take the prescribed dose!  If you are post-menopausal then continuous combined (no bleed) HRT is the usual regime. There can be spotting and bleeding to start with and this can go on for up to 6 months (not all the time!) and eventually you should not bleed at all. Some women don't (bleed) anyway and it depends how long post-menopausal you are, and how long your body has been without oestrogen? Try it and see how you get on! Good luck!

Well, I have been on the Oestrogel 2 pumps per day for the last 14 days and I fell amazing!  The last time I remember feeling this good was about 10 years ago, so it's definitely the best HRT I have tried so far.  I read somewhere it's the champagne of HRT! and that sounds right for me.  Can't believe I managed to persuade my local NHS doctor to prescribe it.  She game me a prescription for 1 pump pack and a repeat for another which I can get as soon as I run out.  Does anyone know how many pump packs they will give me in 1 go?  Will it be 3?  I am also on the Utro 2 x 100mg days 15 to 26.  Meant to be starting that soon, am quite nervous as I am prog intolerant!  Will report back with my experience soon!

Hi. I've just found this thread and hoping it is the right place to post. I'm currently on utrogestan 200mg for 12 days and Sandrena 1mg gel. I tried the uterogestan vaginally but the side effects were the same as orally and it made me very itchy and my pelvic girdle pain was a lot worse. I have been so desperate for more oestrogen (I really don't get on with progesterone) as, although I don't suffer with flushes much, I get lots of other symptoms of low oestrogen (since August I have have had a really hoarse voice - checked out and my cords are dry and not meeting properly so I'm now on the list for voice therapy). So I have been trying 2 mg of gel off my own bat but think this may be too much (my voice is no better yet but I do feel quite edgy at times). My question is, has anyone here got experience of moving from sandrena to estero gel? Has it been easier to apply (sandrena takes about an hour to stop being sticky so I can get dressed!)? Does it provide more relief from symptoms than sandrena? Is it worth a try? What is the most estero gel and least uterogestan I could ask for? I'd like to start at the very highest dose and then work down. I hope someone can help as I have been feeling far too awful for far too long now.

I have used Oestrogel for many years and it's great.  You can use from one to 4 pumps per day and it dries in about 10 mins - I always applied it to my inner thighs. I do doubt that you actually need more oestrogen - it can take about 6 months for the full benefit of the oestrogen to take effect - the drying out due to oestrogen deficiency will naturally take longer.  There are many women that believe they need higher doses of oestrogen but this can lead to more side effects with no real benefit - the edginess you are getting could be due to this over dosing so I'd go back to the one sachet per day.  If you switch to Oestrogel then you will probably only need two pumps per day.  HRT is not a cure all and I must caution you about experimenting with dosage without the guidance of your doctor. How long have you been using HRT?
I used to be a professional singer and I know that the  vocal chords are delicate - speech therapy may well identify why you are hoarse and give you strategies to help with this - there are so many things that can damage the chords and cause problems.  Do you steam over a hot saline solution regularly? Do you work in a hot dry office?
When you say you feel awful, what symptoms are you getting?  DG x

Well I thought I would update on how I am doing with the Utrogestan now that I am halfway through taking my very first course, I have now taken 6 doses out of 12 of 2 x 100mg vaginally and today I had a migraine  :( albeit not a bad one, just lurking but I had to give in and take a triptan to shift it to be able to get on with my day. I haven't really noticed any other side effects, not really sure about the sleepiness as we've had a hectic weekend & I did over sleep the alarm this morning (which is unusual for me) but like I say we had a very late night over the weekend so it may be a knock on effect from that...I guess only time will tell. Oh I have noticed though that I have been itchy around my back passage area & it appears to be a bit red (I do have a small hemorrhoid there but it NEVER EVER gives me any bother so possibly the Utro is irritating it??) I have put some anusol cream on which has settled it down. Anyway sorry for TMI  :o I am definitely weeing more on the Utro aswell but that's not bothering me.
So basically I am doing ok atm apart from slight migraine and irritation around the back door! BUT... still another 6 days left!!
I even drank quite a bit of prosecco at the weekend and had no headache or hangover  ;)
I will keep you all updated, keeping everything crossed this works for me!

Goosie, if I took 2 x 100mg of Utrogestan, I would get a silent migraine.  You are the only other person I can come across on here who gets silent migraines, does it consist of a blind spot followed by 25 minutes of visual disturbance without the ensuing headache?  I can only take 7 x 100mg vaginally each month maximum.  This is the dose that Professor Studd gives to women who have migraines which are brought on my progesterone and women who are progesterone intolerant.

My migraines are only caused by synthetic progesterone and high doses of Utrogestan, nothing else, and I didn't have them during my reproductive years.  I consulted migraine specialist Professor Anne MacGregor (an MM member kindly passed me her details) and she suggested I take 300mg of aspirin every day which I now do so you might want to give it a try.

Hi Mary, Thanks for your reply. No I don't get any visual disturbance with my migraines, never have had that fortunately.I have been on Beta Blockers for over 2 years to try control my migraine but I've no idea how well they are actually working. Since I have been on HRT my migraines have been far less and when I was on the Estradot patch only for 20 days prior to this course of Utrogestan I didn't have one single migraine, Oestrogen is definitely what I need! This would make sense as my migraines did get far worse during the perimenopausal years (though at the time I didn't know this was the cause, if I had I certainly wouldn't have agreed to take Beta Blockers). I wouldn't want to take aspirin regularly as my stomach gets very easily irritated if I take too many Ibuprofen  :(
I have 6 days left of Utrogestan to take, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens. Thanks again for your advice, I will keep you informed of how I'm doing  :)
