Granny on point of collapse, running on empty. Off to Dr later to see what he suggests. Its my own GP so knows me quite well.
Granddaughter doesn't know what solitary play is as her mum is always off doing stuff with her. She pitched a game at me because I needed to get on with the tea tonight. She is a very clever but demanding little girl. Not actually sure what she will be like when she gets back home as she will expect them to carry on as before.  Her nose will be more out of place than normal.
I may be down for days or weeks, I just don't know.

Many children do not seem to be able to play alone  :o - perhaps some books that she can colour or read alone?  We used to have painting books where the pages were covered with water, then the picture appeared ..........

At least the little one is progressing.  Hopefully the progress will increase more rapidly and relieve some of the awful tension.  Being a nurse is often not helpful as one can know too much to relax and trust.  I can't trust at all anymore after the almost criminal misdiagnosis of Don.

So I'm glad you are being seen. Perhaps short term Valium might serve well here.  A vacation in the Bahamas might be better, however.

Thinking of you lots!

Oh a holiday anywhere would be good just now, though would be selfish under the circumstances.
Getting bloods done tomorrow to make sure nothing amiss. Weight, BP was fine. Been advised not to come off HRT until this is all over. Wasn't planning to just yet, doubt I could cope.

Baby responding better and better. Now talking about sending her home with support from neonatal nurses etc. Not sure when this will be but can't believe difference in a week. All the positive vibes from everyone must have worked.  Daughter and her partner are just so pleased at how well she is responding. Still need to find out if it's short or long term, but we're all just thankful to be where we are now.

Brilliant news CG.

Babies look so delicate but can be resilient. You have a little fighter there.

How is Gran coping?

Not home yet FW but sounds like it will be sooner rather than later.  Just keeping fingers crossed it's not genetic now. They will need to have tests done at some point. Would be very unusual if it was, as it takes one defective gene from each to cause this condition.

Hi CB, I hope you won't mind my philosophising here, but I was the go to person for diabetes in the hospital where I worked.  I devoted my life to keeping my very young toddler alive with multiple insulin shots and the insulin pump.  He's 44 and traveling the world in his job today.

A possible simplistic understanding of what happened could be, Mum had high sugars due NOT to her fault, but due to genetics, and baby said hey, wait a minute I have too much sugar coming to my body so I will have to adapt and produce more insulin to get the sugar level normal.

Ok now, baby is born and her little body has adjusted to high sugar and now, all of a sudden, this has changed and her pancreas and liver have to make adjustments to stop being in insulin overdrive.  This obviously takes a little time.

The body is a miracle and will often self correct if given a little help.

I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to send Big Sister home in case they need to go back to Hospital?  :-\  ....... give it at least 48 hours.

How are *you* today?

Thanks Trey. Time will tell, but baby doing much better than a week ago.  Mum did worry about that aspect as she has been a renal nurse in the past. She queried that she may have had gestational diabetes, but they said nothing pointed to that being the case.

Granddaughter has to go home on Saturday as she has school on Monday.

GP ordered blood tests for me as I felt so wiped out, but all is fine. Guess it's just everything which has happened in the last 2 weeks has caught up with me.  Can't believe it's only been two weeks, feels like forever.

Big sis has been fine considering, just very tiring!
