How does the cost of Vagifem® 10μg compare to Vagifem® 25μg?
Vagifem® 10μg pack of 24 tablets with applicators: £16.72 or 69p per tablet.
Vagifem® 25μg pack of 15 tablets with applicators: £10.56 or 70p per tablet.

I think I can see where you are coming from Suzi - 70p for 25mcg and 69p for 10mcg that's 1p less for a difference of 15mcg per tablet!  Certainly I think that cost must have been a factor in the decision to withdraw the 25mcg tablets.

Hello ladies
havent posted for a while and as always whenever I have problem, its comforting to know that someone else has posted about it.
I have vaginal atrophy and have been using vagifem 25 for some time. Like some of the other posties, I have noticed an unpleasant vaginal smell that I wasn't too happy about (neither was the other half...lts just say its put him off certain pleasurale acts : (). I did mention it to my GP but she wasn't exactly helpful and said it could be down to certain foods!. I have been using it for a few years now and never had this problem before. The other problem is my VA is getting worse despite the vagifem and we often have to stop 2 or 3 times during sex to relube!!!!. It really takes the fun out of it.
I wondered if anyone else had ever had this problem and if they moved onto something else instead. I know the vagifem is meant to be the gold standard, but I'm struggling here. Yes I'm also on HRT and using a decent lube and not KY jelly. Sometimes it feels as though my vagina is so dry that that it just absorbs the lube the moment we start having sex.
Sorry to be so graphic but running out of ideas  :-\

I just wanted to say sorry you are so uncomfortable still despite both HRT and Vagifem. I found that the two together worked for me and I don't know what else to suggest. What dosage HRT are you on?

Your GP should have taken a vaginal swab I reckon to rule out bacterial vaginosis which can give a nasty smell.

Not sure about the vast knowledge bit!!  ;D

I don't quite understand what you are saying? Don't quite get the figures  :-\  This is the info in the link

"What is the cost of Vagifem® 10μg?
Vagifem® 10μg costs £16.72 for a pack of 24 tablets with applicators.

Are the pack sizes the same?
No. Vagifem® 10μg contains 24 tablets with applicators and Vagifem® 25μg contains 15 tablets with applicators."

NO thats not what I meant its  the dosage 240m against 375m. not taking about amount of pills but the amount of Vagifem in the  pill So the 1p only works for the aplicator not the dosage so yes its 1 p less per aplicator of 24x10m but for that 1 p less you get 15m per applicator  or dosage less =125m less than you did before so if a lady needs to take 50m a week the cost will be almost double have I explained it right? xxxxxxx

I think I understand  :D

This is a very wordy article but details the reasons for the change to 10mcg. It does seem to say that the absorption with the 10mcg is within limits where the women tested on the 25mcg was outside the published safe limits. Well, I think that's what it's saying. That part is under "safety" somewhere.. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3234898/

I believe that it was once the manufacturers changed their minds about not needing a break from Vagifem that the American health authorities questioned the safety of the 25mcg dose. I suppose that it is up to the individual to take responsibility for the possible consequences of "overdosing" much as we take responsibility for the fact that taking full HRT puts us at slightly more risk of stroke and certain cancers. It is very upsetting when women are told that the take-up is negligible and the product is working only to be told that it has been discovered that the take-up is more than thought and a lower dose is necessary which then might not work.

I was on both HRT and Vagifem and that worked for me at the time. Maybe the 10mcg dose will mean that more women will have to use full HRT which will cause it's own risks?

Thank god someone understood what I was saying ahh

So all of a sudden when mass useage and rush of baby boomers and post baby boomers want a need Vagifem
Its been in this 25x2 dose and in use for I think about 9 years NOW they decide it may not be safe
Why arent all of vagifem users then being informed by Norco
Why isnt it in the papers a general warnign that over the last 9 years they may have made a mistke in dosage?
I still thnk its mostly money and also maybe they hid the real findings from us maybe it was dangerous and they knew it
IMagine women now if they get anythng after Vagifem use will sue I would I was told 25x2 was safe BY THEM! 3yrs ago
Now they say sorry 10m is the rght dose mediacaly sumit up here?

I'm finding that 2x 25mc a week aren't cutting it for me at the mo. I'm "aware" of my vagina most of the time. I did 3 days in a row last week and it seemed better, but as soon as I reverted to normal "the feelings " back. I think when I get my BP tests over with I'll make an appt with my favourite female GP.

How long you been on Vagifem?
I have been on it 3 years yesterday and it worked well OH had the odd blip here and there but was normally corercted
Id put in an extra one for 2/3 weeks
But in late Octber last year it started to fail I felt all the old symptoms were coming back
So 4th Dec/14th Dec (10 days) I did reload it worked very well but even with that I find my genitalia still feels sore
The clit hood and inner labias burn even after usinbg Vagifem then its OK for 2/3 days then its back again
Its not like before Vagiem the deap throb the ache sore in side  more like hot burning sireness on the outside and dry
Just sore thats come back on and off even doing reload it gets depressing and you thnk I dont get this IM not on HRT
Maybe if youve been on it a couple of years maybe like me a relaod they say oyu can do it every year? Good Luck xxx

Hi, dont know if this helps anyone, i used vagifem and when i first started thought it was great, then when i had to reduce dose, it didnt work so well, then i upped the dose, after this i got it settled for a while, then i never seemed to get it right. i wished i had done what some other ladies had done use a moisturiser inbetween doses. but i increased the dose on the advice of gynacologist to every day, boy that upset me in my opinion. but that is my personal opinion not a gynacologists. I have now moved onto the estring. this is worth trying ladies, it is clean and easy to insert. yes it is large, but then you dont want to loose it... lol.. initially it is uncomfy, but i found the way to deal with this, was pop it in till you have had enough and pop it out again, you are in control. you will find you will be able to leave it in longer as you get used to it and i dont have any skin interaction where a tablet is sitting inside.. you wash it off in cold water and put it away. great... i like the estring x
