Hello Ladies! Been reading about Vagifem with great interest- some of my new meno sisters seem to recommend highly. I don't think I am suffering VA yet but noticed a few small changes and def very dry these days. Going for a smear test next week so will ask to be prescribed some.the regime seems a little complicated so hope it comes with all the right instructions and dosage. Do you use it all the time I'd only for 3 months at a time?

I've been using Vagifem since Feb but went back to my gynae as didn't feel it was working.  She's told me to use it everyday (as I've had a hysterectomy and there's no risk).  I'm not really felling the benefit of it yet.  How long does it take to work please?  The VA is awful, really gets me down  :(

It worked for me within two weeks Vera. Eventually, though, I needed full HRT to give me the same results and then full HRT plus vagifem to keep everything ok. Are you on HRT and do you mind me asking how old you are?

Hi Taz & Susan, thanks for your replies, I really appreciate your help.
I'm on Vagifem 10mg and Progynova 2mg per day.  I am only just starting to feel a teeny bit better, it takes ages though doesn't it?  I did consider asking for the higher doseage of Vagifem but I'll see how I get on.  I'm 47 and had a hysterectomy in November but I still have my ovaries although they aren't behaving themselves!
Thanks ladies xx  :-*

Dont give up Vera
It can take up to 6mnths for Vagifem to work properly and I use 25mg 2x7 Occasionaly 3x7 if I have a BLIP
I started mine Feb 2010 it started to help with in days it still took till late July 2010 to feel what passed for normal
Its not a CURE Vagifem its a help VA never goes away you will have good weeks then a few bad days or you may not
With you taking HRT and Vagifem Im sure given time you will be tickety boo
Remember also to ditch all the soap stuff noit let it get any where near the old fanny dept
Buy goats milk or olive oil soap natural so it doesnt dry up the skin and outer tissue
Wash my hair now in the shower but for first few months washed it in the sink If I have what I call a BLIP I still do :-*
PS Im having a Blip right now mine seems stress related Im a Mart to my fanny hehehehehehe

Hi, I`m new to the site and found it by looking for info about VA.
Just what I`ve read over the last few days has made me feel so much more positive  :)

Bit about me:
Periods started at 10
Periods stopped naturally at 49 in 2003
Couple of months later was diagnosed with oestrogen positive breast cancer, treated with surgery, radiotherapy and 5 years of Tamoxifen
Have a large (3 inch diam) fibroid
Been on anti-convulsants for epilepsy for 44 years.

I`m sadly "lucky" not to be in a sexual relationship, but could do with a really good cuddle from time to time  ;)

My VA probs (all the usual: dryness, itchy, sore, aching, dragging pelvic feeling, and the occasional UTI) started about 2008, quickly diagnosed by my wonderful gynae and attributed by him to the Tamoxifen treatment. Nobody that I know has (or talks about) VA, and so I thought he was correct.

For about 18 months I was much better just using Replens MD, then started getting UTIs each time I tried the application.
Because of the cancer I shouldn`t use any oestrogen at all, but in 2010 my gynae prescribed Ovestin cream using the QOL argument and I agreed. Tried it 3 times and felt very strange each time - visual disturbances, dizziness, feeling wobbly. After research I found out that it shouldn`t be used in conjunction with my 2 anti-convulsants, phenobarbital and phenytoin.

I resigned myself to acceptance of the unpleasant symptoms, but the UTIs are becoming more frequent, and the antibiotics are getting less effective each time. I dread the UTIs, and I`m only 57. Is this it for the rest of my life?

Thanks to this wonderful site I realise that I`m not the only one with an amazing disappearing fanny  ;D ;D ;D

I`ve read a lot recently about D-mannose and Uva Ursi (bearberry) natural remedies for UTIs.
Has anybody tried these with success?

Things that have helped me are:
Replens MD
Pears soap, which is pure soap, nothing added
Sudocrem (baby nappy rash cream) for itchiness. It has a lovely lavender smell which hides the unpleasant other smell  8)
Not crossing my legs when sitting  :)

Thank you Mrs P and Susan.

I relate to so much on this site, and its lovely to have someone to "talk" to without feeling I`m embarrassing the other person  ::)

Big hugs

Hi Suze, thanks for your post.
I`m going to see my GP next week armed with new info - she quakes when she sees me  ;)
I want to ask her about Vagifem and Estring, and any interactions with my anti-convulsants.
Also want to ask about D-mannose and Uva Ursi for the same reason. I will try anything now!

Re: grey pubes - mine were the first hairs that turned white way back when I was 45. I`m very shortsighted and thought it was talc. Spent ages trying to brush it off  ::)

Have a great day! xxx

Its scarey when you think its failing
I had a bad blip in late February I was convinced this was it finito pain
I used an extra 1 x25 so 3x7 for 3 weeks and it worked well
Im back on 2x7 but I know that if needed I can go back to 3x7
When I have my blip it used to be a day or 2 now its a week or more before I resort to 3
Never again as soon as it starys to go iffy shive a Vagifem in hehehehehe
