Cassie, you mention you have been on the 100mg for years with no problems at all. Do you mind if I ask if that is continuous daily and do you take orally or vaginally?
What oestrogen do you use and how much?  Sorry for the questions! Having tried something else recently, I am now returning to Estradot patch and deciding on which method to take the Utrogestan! Thanks!

Hi I take 100mg of UTrogestan every other month, vaginally. Only use half a pump of oestrogel.

Hello,

I am due to start this regime today but very unsure and nervous about it so hoping somebody can advise/reassure me before I start.

I have been having peri symptoms for a few years now that I am finding hard to manage so eventually have a phone consultation with a menopause doctor last month. She has px 1 pump of gel for every day and utrogestan tablets days 15-26 (I think?). My periods have been every 23 days ish for the last year but this one is just over four weeks from last one.

However my main problem I have trouble controlling is health anxiety so it’s made me really anxious about starting this regime due to side effects!

The vast majority feel the benefits with no adverse side effects. The ones who are OK carry on with their lives, the ones who aren't post on here! Anxiety and insomnia were my worst symptoms, it took 3 months on HRT but they have gone. If your anxiety came with meno it will probably go with hrt. I hope it goes well.

Hello!

I've been peri menopausal for a couple of years and started on Femoston 1/10 and then switched up to Femoston 2/10 about 18 months ago.  I am 48.

My symptoms started to creep back in recently and so GP has prescribed a new regime for me to try.

Can I run it past you please and check I have got it right in my own mind?

So, I was on Femoston 2/10 which is  2mg Oestradiol and then the same 2mg plus 10mg dydrogestrone for 14 days. I would have a bleed each month.

GP has now prescribed  2 - 4 pumps of Estrogel (1 pump contains 0.75mg estradiol) - I am wondering whether to start on 2 or 3 pumps? I am thinking I will apply it to mid innner thigh in the morning?

I then have Utrogestan 100 oral capsules (containing 100mg progesterone) - take 2 (200mg) orally at bedtime on days 15 - 26.

Does this sound about right?

Any advice on whether to start with 2 or 3 pumps?

Many thanks in advance,

Ali x

Hello again ladies,

So i have only been on the new regime for one week but my physical anxiety symptoms have been worse this week, managable but worse.... I know it has only been a week but am wondering if I should increase to 3 pumps of gel?  I am only asking incase I get an overwheliming response to up the dose straight away, if not I guess I will hang on and give everything time to settle?

I also have a question! At the moment I don't feel the need to shower every single day and sometimes miss a day, am I ok to apply the gel again in the same place the next day having not had a shower in between?

Also due to lockdown etc I find myself having showers at different times of the day eg yesterday I had my shower around 5pm, is this a problem if I applied the gel in the morning?

At the moment I apply one pump to each thigh, it's quite a lot of gel to rub in although it does absorb in nicely.  If I need to increase I guess I would have to put the extra gel on my shoulders?

Hi Ali - it seems we have the same symptoms re: physical anxiety symptoms.  I started on 2 pumps but felt it wasn’t enough because some days were worse than others.  At 6 weeks I asked the specialist what she thought about an increase and she said no - I needed to ride it through and wait for 3 months.  At 7 weeks I was crawling the walls and went against it and applied another pump for a few days but found that ramped up my nausea and headache so reduced back down to 2.  I then started wondering have I got too much (anxiety kicking in) so reduced to 1.  It’s a minefield.  I have 5 weeks to go and have gone back to 2 pumps.  With regards to your shower routine I shower every morning so easy to just apply then.  When I was applying the 3rd pump in the evening I just did a quick rinse of my thigh - not always convenient because in the real world we would be at work but until I figure out how many pumps I need it’s the best way that works for me at the moment.

Hi sed,

Thanks for your reply...  it's so tricky isnt it... I guess we both need to ride it out and see how we go. I guess I was just hoping for 20 replies, all saying, 'yes 3 pumps and you'll feel on top of the world', if only it were that easy  ;D

You take care and fingers crossed for both of us.

Hi I have been using the utrogestan/Oestrogel for over 6 months after using Evorel patches previously for 18 months.I am   worried  as for the first 3 months of using 2 pumps of Oestrogel and taking the utrogestan tablets from days 15 to 26 that for the last 3 months have had no bleed at all. Does this mean that I can't be absorbing the the hrt properly has anyone else experienced no bleed after taking the progesterone innthus way. Please help if you can.

Thank you, your posts are very reassuring. However I have one more question, can I start the gel now on day 3 of my period, as I missed starting over the weekend, or do I need to wait until day one of my next cycle?

Hello, my first post, what an amazing resource this is ...Thankyou it has helped me a lot on my meno journey.
I am just coming to the end of my 3 month trial with femostan 2/10, this is the first HRT  I was put onto by my GP.When I went for my appointment I explained I was 6 weeks away from being a year without periods, and in the year before that had 2 periods.
The 2 bleeds I have had on femostan have been agony, 3 days of terrible pain leaving me bedridden taking up to 8 nurofen in 24 hours, and a bleed of 6 days, I simply can’t do this again !
Having now done research I am keen to go onto the urtrogaston / estrogel regime as this seems the most natural route.
My question is can I take the 100mg of urtrogaston every day to avoid a bleed altogether ? As I said above , I have been nearly a year without periods before I started HRT and I really don’t want to go back to having them again ,
What are your thoughts ? Experiences ?

Yes but if you're not meno you might get breakthrough bleeding. Might be best to have the 100mg with the 3 day break so you can bleed if there's been a build up. If you want to be pretty certain you'll be bleed free you might consider a mirena.

Just a couple of questions-

I started with the gel 2 weeks ago and will start tablets tonight.

I have been using the gel after my shower which during lockdown/covid is about 6pm but progesterone leaflet says to take them at bedtime along with the gel. Is that right and do I need to wash my arms again before applying the gel?

Also, do I need to alternate between arms and thighs regularly or just sporadically?

Thanks for your help

No need to wash again... unless you've been mud wrestling...  :). I don't think it makes any difference if you don't take it the same time as utro. Some people use it in the morning, I use 2 pumps night and morning on thighs. I have found no difference in uptake between arms and thighs but some people do. If you do it might be best to stick to one site so you always get the same amount.

Hi,

Just a little advice please...

I've stuck with the new regime for one month (I have switched from taking Femoston 2/10) - 2 pumps of gel in the morning and then the tablets for 12 nights.

I had a tiny bit of 'old' spotting for a couple of days but no proper period.  A lot of my meno symptoms have worsened over the month. For the first two weeks of this regime my eyes were painfully dry. This passed but other symptoms have gradually kicked in, hot flushes, disturbed sleep, anxious chest, palpatations, low mood, the list goes on.

I presume at the start of month two, I would be able to give 3 pumps a try? Or should I persevere with the two for longer?

If I increase to 3 should I apply in the morning or do 2 in the morning and 1 at night?

Thanks in advance,
