Hi Loo53

I've just seen your post and wondered how you got your doctor to prescribe Esterol cream. I am 47 and have severe external vaginal itching. My GP prescribed Vagifem and said she wouldn't prescribe both. I feel as the itching is external the cream may be better. I am also on steroid cream.

Any suggestions as to how I can get this under control will be most helpful.

Vagifem will help the while urogenital area including the external area but many women like to use extra osteogen in a cream form to an poly externally. You mention in your other post that you are going to see a  specialist privately and hopefully they will offer the cream as well.
It does take time for any local oestrogen to work its magic I'm aftaid. In your case it is the sudden and rather extreme onset of this itching that is a bit of a mystery and if it is LS a proper diagnosis is needed.

Hi Dancinggirl

I have an appointment with a specialist on Friday  :)
Hopefully this will confirm exactly what's going on!

Thanks for your help so far.

Hi all

Up until today I have had an improvement with itching during the day time but horrendous at night. I'm only getting around 2-3 hours sleep per night as the itching is driving me crazy!
I am trying ice packs/frozen peas and also the coconut oil in addition to the Vagifem which is now day 10. Has anyone got any advice for coping at night please?

I am seeing a specialist tomorrow.

Kind regards

Hi All

Also has anyone used Isogenix products for weight loss? They are a protein shake that contain lots of vitamins too. I have been taking these for a couple of months and am just wondering if they could be causing / making the symptoms worse. I would not think so as I know people who take them during the menopause but I'm just searching for answers...

Thanks

Your issues are unlikely to have anything to do with your diet I'm afraid. Let us know how you get on with the specialist.  DG x

Hi Dancinggirl, I pretty much knew that but sometimes you clutch at straws and I'm examining anything that I have recently!
I'll let you know how I get on.

I have used a good lubricant for sex for many years - I think it's really essential. I use Durex Extra Glide. The oestrogen treatments can only do so much and  many women use vaginal Moisturisers as well e.g. SYLK - alongside the oestrogen treatments but don't use these at the same time. DG x

Dancinggirl, I have just read your post above and wondered if you could answer a question as I have been using Vagifem and SYLK at the same time. Is this wrong and if so why please?
What do you advise.

Hi Ruby - sorry I didn't respond sooner - my dog has been ill!!!!

It is advised not to use vaginal moisturisers at the same time as the oestrogen treatments as the moisturisers form a barrier and this could effect the absorption of the oestrogen.  So I always say, on the nights you use the Vagifem use the SYLK in the morning.  Although what I do is just use a bit of SYLK on the external area, as the Vagifem is going up inside the vagina - the nights I'm not using Vagifem I push the SYLK right up inside. Hope that makes sense

Hi Dancinggirl

Went to see the menopause specialist today who said she doesn't think it's the menopause that's causing it. She said my skin does not look atrophic. She got a gynecologist to see in at the same time who thinks it's either Lichen sclerosus or a very severe inflammatory reaction.
So she gave me dermovate ointment and instagell which has a local anaesthetic in it to numb the area while hopefully the dermovate ointment works.
I have to go see her again in two weeks and if there is no improvement she will organise for me to have a biopsy.

Are there any links to this condition on here?

Hopefully I'm getting somewhere and may get some sleep as I've been operating on about two hours per night!

Hope your dog is better.

I'm not sure about other links on this site but do keep us posted. Anything to do with our intimate area is so distressing.  I hope things settle for you.

£600 later, we are still not clear as to why our dog is throwing up so much, except they said his small intestine is rather gunged up!!! Apparently lots of low fat foods for a while and it will hopefully flush through!!! It's been very worrying. DG x

Well I'm slightly flustered on account of a visit to my GP.  I was getting test results, which fortunately came back clear but she was running 15 minutes late. (I think I was the first in the afternoon  ???)  And I'm teaching this afternoon, in precisely forty minutes' time.  Never mind, at least I got a prescription for Vagifem from her, which should make life a bit easier.

Somewhere on this thread, I saw something about it being safe for people who can't take HRT to use Vagifem, but I can't find it anywhere.  Although I've been prescribed Vagifem, at my request, I just want to be sure that it's completely safe for me to use before I start taking it.  I've never taken HRT because of my family history (my Mum) of BC.  The GP said something about it when I saw her today but I was feeling a bit anxious and it didn't go in, so can anyone advise me, please?
Thanks, Dulciana x

Dulciana, Vagifem only acts locally and is not absorbed systemically, so as far as I am aware it should be safe for you. People are often told it is equivalent to one HRT tablet per year.
