continuous utrogestan will this give me less anxiety than mirena
« on: December 15, 2025, 10:34:52 PM »

Hi, I'm hoping someone may be able to help me! I had the mirena coil fitted approx 3 months ago in order to help with my heavy frequent bleeds and huge amounts of pain (I was recently diagnosed with adenomyosis). It's worked amazingly for that - I stopped having periods almost immediately! However it has given me huge amounts of anxiety and repeated panic attacks - feels like it's put me in constant fight or flight mode. I feel my options are:
1. Add in estrogel as this may buffer the effects (I am likely perimenopausal at 45)
2. Take it out and try vaginal utrogestan (or another body identical progesterone) as I've read this doesn't have such pronounced anxiety side effects. Then when this settles I could try adding estrogel.

Can anyone please tell me if continuous utrogestan would also keep my periods stopped? And has anyone found it to be better from an anxiety side effect perspective than the mirena?

As debilitating as the anxiety currently is I'm still loath to go back to the level of pain and the anaemia I was having prior. Surely there's a way to do that without feeling like I do currently though! 🙏
