Servely itchy skin
« on: September 19, 2025, 09:11:43 PM »

Hi everyone new on here so please bare with.                                                          I started peri meno properly 7 years ago, had mirena so no periods anyway for years. Had that removed in 2020 and stated Kilofem.  Around the same time I stated getting the most horrendously itchy skin on and off but mostly on. Ive tried every anti histamine going even the strongest prescription only and they didn’t touch me also many many creams, im trying child’s farm oat derma ATM but still no help. Had bloods done and all ok. When I say I itch it’s the most intense prickly heat type that also can feel like bites and tingly too! Anyone know how  many years this can last ? Or any suggestions as to what might make it stop. After 5 years of it it’s driving me absolute insane It keeps me awake and it’s relentless. I sometimes get a bit of peace after a shower but it’s short lived.        I don’t get hot flushes but I have times when my skin feels overly warm to the touch but I don’t if that makes sense, no sweating or anything just hot skin, this seems to make it worse and hot weather also my clothes touching my skin can be really aggravating. Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA x

forget to mention I had a small bleed in June 2023 but nothing since so I’m guessing I’d be post menopause now? Also the doctor thought the hrt tablets may have been causing the itching so she switched me to patches but unfortunately they have t stopped it either ( 4 months on them now) hope someone can help  :'(

Morning.  As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; skin, scalp, deep in the ears, eyes, nostrils, vagina, anus as well as muscles may become lax.

Using a good quality body lotion or hand cream: Nivea or Vaseline in the yellow bottle suits me/DH: is the starting point.  How is your diet overall?  I've had to alter mine in recent years due to experiencing bloating from the hidden fats and sugars.

Which patches were your prescribed?  It may B that they simply aren't a high enough strength to counteract the itching.

Was the 'small' bleed investigated?  U are not into menopause until you have been free of periods for about 12-14 months, though Mother Nature can throw in the curved ball as the ovaries may continue to pump out occasionally.

Low oestrogen symptoms are the dry/itchy/hot symptoms that you will get. I know the itchy feeling very well, and yes it does feel like prickly heat rash itch, like pins pricking your skin. I don’t know where abouts you get it but I have it on my groin, vulva, perineum, around the back passage and my forearms although my arms are the least bothersome. I can lay in bed at night scratching my skin til the top layer comes off, then showering the next morning it stings like hell. It has improved the more I’ve increased my patches I must say. If you say your skin feels hot aswell it sounds like you need more oestrogen to counteract those symptoms. Good luck x

Yes I have been using vagifem pessaries and also Ovesse for the outside which helps a lot. It’s worse right before my period and right after ovulation every month. I am guessng that’s when my hormone levels dip

I was never aware which hormone was responsible for each mood swing but they were cynical ......... can't remember whether that helped/not  ::)

Hi all and thank you.  I was on mirena for years and my periods stopped altogether. Had it removed in 2020 and put on Kilofem tablets. Had a small bleed in 2023 (only blood id seen since my late 30s and having mirena coil. Bleed was investigated and nothing wrong said it dust showed that the hrt tablets were working. Itching on and off since 2020 so GP changed me from tablets to patches thinking of the liver bypass but still happens. Full bloods ran only weeks ago and all ok. I’m now on Evorel Conti. Hard to know the 12 month time frame to say I’m in post menopause but I’m guessing at age 55 and no blood or soooting since that only one in June 2023 I guess I would be? I’m just so desperate to know if the intense itch will ever stop! It’s debilitating and makes me so miserable it affect my day to day life and sleep

Hi Elly. Itching is so uncomfortable especially when you can't even see any signs on the skin of what might be causing it. I'm wondering if you've ever seen a dermatologist about this. Also you have had your bloods checked but did this include testing for vitamin deficiencies? I'm not sure if there's anything helpful here on the British Association of Dermatologists site https://www.bad.org.uk/pils/pruritus-itching

.                                                    Hi and thanks for your reply I’m so sorry I’m still trying to navigate this site. I be out another reply on here at the bottom explaining my situation before I tried this. Yes the bleed was investigated and told nothing to worry about and was showing me the Kilofem was working, this was June 2023 and nothing since. It’s difficult as I had merina coil for many many years (like 15)and my periods just stopped and had it removed in 2020

Taz x.                                                        Hi I’m not sure how to do a proper reply to someone on here 🤦‍♀️ all bloods were fine and I eat good diet with vitamin supplements daily. Dr was going to refer to a dermatologist but I’m supposed to be moving out of area soon so pointless atm

Elley, I too have suffered with itchy skin on and off for years but mine doesn't sound as intense as yours. I can't really offer much advice as I've never got to the reason why(apart from hormones obviously 😂)....just wanted to say you're certainly not alone and hope you get some relief soon 😊

Elley - go to the next empty box, don't worry about 'quoting' and type your next comments.

I am aware of an irritated sensation across the back slightly below my neck, it may B due to the winter clothing I'm wearing.

My sister is allergic to Persil so it mayB worth while changing your laundry powder on an 'in case' basis.

4 me as oestrogen levels dropped it was my insteps as I took off socks B4 stepping into my evening bath and I would wake with 1 ruff heel scratching the other  :o. That's lasted intermittently for 3/4 years but isn't problematic - the irritation in my scalp and back eased after a few months, I suppose as my hormone levels evened out.

Have U tried a good quality moisturiser I think I mentioned already  :-\

thank you I’m using my phone an I can’t see an empty box anywhere 🤦‍♀️  I use non bio sensitive everything and tried loads of creams. I’m using Child’s farm oat derma atm but problem is sometimes I’m not itchy and I use a cream to moisture and if the itch then starts I don’t know if it would have just started anyway or it’s the cream kicked it off
