Nausea
« on: September 15, 2025, 03:47:29 PM »

Hi Ladies,

I’m so done with this nausea, does anyone else suffer? I can have days where I don’t get any then wham it floors me. I’m trying to battle my way through the depression as well and the nausea makes it worse. I take all the right vitamins and live off of Pepto Bismal at the moment! I just wondered if anyone has anything they take and it relieves it. I sometimes take Sturgeon tablets, which are mainly for travel sickness, they do take the edge off sometimes but not always.

I’m about 4 years post meno but I’m still getting so many symptoms still. Will it ever end  :(

Nausea floors me.  Have U talked to your Nurse Practitioner or Pharmacist?  How is your diet overall?  When my body lacks energy I get nauseous, awful.  Eating little and often especially slow release foods i.e. bananas, porridge ........ can help.

During peri nausea would arrive in waves, I knew where every littler bin was in each shop that I went to: I had to ask to use the bathroom in a Pharmacy, she began to direct me to the closest loo until she saw my face  :o - I wasn't ill but felt awful.

Is it worse at any time of day?

Hi, thanks for your reply, sorry to hear you suffer with it too.

It’s usually worse in the morning but some days (like today) it has lasted all day. It tends to ease a lot in the evening. I just feel calmer this time of day, I wish I could just live in the evenings!

I haven’t spoken to my GP as have never found them helpful but I think I need to try again. My diet is usually good although I must admit I can be unhealthy too.

There doesn’t seem to be a pattern though. Last week I ate dinner (spicy chilli) later than usual and had wine and woke up the next day and had a nauseous free day and felt good, which I didn’t expect. Last couple of days I have eaten healthy and have just felt awful. Nothing in menopause seems to make sense.

Hi,
I have nausea caused by chemotherapy. I take cyclizine, metoclopramide or olanzapine. They are all good broad spectrum anti sickness meds
( prescription only)

Maybe ask your GP to let you trial one?

Is the nausea food linked? I often find eating little and often helps. Small meals but regularly.

Huge sympathy, nausea is rubbish ☹️

Agree little and often.  Even in the night = 24/7.  So after a bathroom visit a dry biscuit to settle the stomach.

What was with the curry?

Thanks you both for your replies. Sorry that you are going through Chemo Nas, that is tough, I hope you are as well as you can be.

I think it’s time for me to contact the GP.

Thanks CLKD you’re right, I need to try little and often, even if I’m not hungry. I do tend to leave it a few hours before eating.

I had a terrible night last night, awake from 2am with bad nausea and felt like I’d had caffeine, which I hadn’t.

I’m trying all I can and bought some night-time protein powder and had it just before bed and decided I’d put an extra pump of oestrogel on (I’m only on one pump). I think this was a recipie for disaster looking back.

This does sound like oestrogen spikes. Used to wake me up early hours and then eventually spread to 24/7 (but mine was extreme!). Do you have it for the whole cycle or could it be worse over ovulation - or if post meno is there a monthly pattern?

The anti nausea meds didn’t help me and some made me worse but Cyclizine was probably the most helpful with the least rebound effect.

Also phosphatidylserine (an amino acid) could be helpful as brings down cortisol and that can be behind the nausea. For me it takes 2 hours to kick in, for which I feel worse, then there is relief for a few hours and you can take more to get to the evening when it naturally comes down.

Hi, I started with terrible nausea this year....I'm over 10 years postmenopausal .
It started in March for a good 3 months and then eased off a little and has started again over the last few weeks.
I've had blood tests and nothing was found....I knew ithey wouldn't show anything as it's obviously hormonal.
I have tried cyclizine and it didn't do anything at all....I've taken it in the past for other things and it has worked. It might be worth you asking your GP about trying it's it might work for you.
I've not found anything that helps, just hope it stops soon.
Are you on HRT??  My nausea started about 6 months after I stopped HRT
Good luck ToriiJ and let us know

Thank you dangermouse and Northerngirl, sorry to hear you have suffered and suffer with it too. It is so debilitating and I have just spent the day lying on the sofa although I did go to the pharmacist today who was really helpful. They gave me Cyclizine so will give that a go, if no luck then the GP it is I guess.

Northerngirl I’m on just one pump of oestrogel so very low dose and 100g utrogestan. I’m not sure HRT has ever helped me really. I hope your nausea stops soon

Sturgeron [sp] or other travel anti-sickness meds over the counter may b another route to ease symptoms.

Eating little and often every 3 hours 24/7 certainly helped me and I stick to that as much as possible even now.

Thanks CLKD, I will definitely try that. It’s hard to eat when not hungry but will make myself. Sometimes I’ll just have a spoon of peanut butter.

Just hoping today is a better day.
