Mobile phone alert at 3.00 p.m.
« on: September 07, 2025, 07:56:25 AM »

At 15:00 BST today -  compatible phones will vibrate and make a siren sound for 10 seconds, even if set to silent.
They will also display a message explaining that a test is taking place.

The alerts are intended for situations in which there is an imminent danger to life, such as extreme weather events or during a terror attack.

Pat McFadden, the new work and pensions secretary, said the test is "to make sure the system works well when we need it most".

People have complained about it already. They panicked when it went off.  It has been advertised for weeks!!

I’m the sort if person to have a heart attack at this kind if stuff, a as with the last time, my phone has alerts switched off. Don’t need a calm and contemplative Sunday afternoons’ repose rendered shocking by a frantic piece of techno.

I thought that this alert over-rides others that are switched off?  There was a printed message about ignoring this test.  Hopefully surgeons weren't operating with a mobile in their pockets  :o

It overrides if your phone is on silent, but if you switch the actual alerts off in settings then you don’t get them . Which suits me fine. If I’m getting bombed or otherwise mullered I wouldn’t want to know anyway, I’d only have my last moments on earth ruined by pooing my pants whilst simultaneously enjoying a heart attack and a last pee. What else would they be warning me about. Shortage if toilet rolls again maybe , that would also be a problem if I’d already pooed myself.
