I think it depends where the problem lies and I'm starting to suspect it might not be the GPs at fault but whoever watches the medication bill. Mine are happy enough to issue one-off prescriptions for a loading dose but they won't put a higher dose on a repeat prescription. So perhaps someone is watching the repeat prescriptions the GP is hauled over the coals if they exceed the standard dose? And probably some regions are more strict on it than others.

Minusminnie- One GP said I would have to go the full 3 months even if my symptoms worsened before she might consider a referral. The other GP just said, loading dose again then back to two a week and if that doesn't work she would not prescribe again. A much nicer GP who prescribed Estriol cream for external use has now left the surgery- maybe I would have got somewhere with her. There is another GP (male) but who knows what he would be like (I expected that women would be more understanding ) and it is very difficult to book a particular doctor as no GP is in on every day.

sheila99- You might be right about repeat prescriptions but even if you are, I suspect it would be impossible to prove it. I live in Nottinghamshire. It would be very interesting to know if there seem to be across the board, standard county-wide prescribing policies or if it depends from surgery to surgery within a county. There is a wide variation of experiences among women here and quite frankly there shouldn't be.

They can't say that, its just negligence and failing in their duty of care. Topical oestrogen treatment is not expensive, its also a very effective treatment if given in the right doses. I would go down the complaints route to the relevant bodies and getting this sorted, how dare I can't get the same treatment as many other women without any problems in England, I really would put up a fight!
