Please Help Bleeding & Over Thinking
« on: August 23, 2025, 12:29:15 PM »

Any help would be much appreciated as I don't know if I'm just worrying to much. I'm 52 and been for three years on Estradiol gel - 2 pumps a day and Progesterone pills 25 days on 3 days off.  My periods stopped in 2020, but last year  May 2024 out of the blue I had a very heavy bleed. The doctors sent me for urgent cancer referal tests and they came back negative, told me nothing to worry about.  No more bleeding until the start of this month August 2025, I have been heavy bleeding now for 23 days, to the point I am wearing night time sanitary pads and changing every couple of hours.  I was told by the doctors that you can just out of the blue get a period every so often, I'm not sure if they were just fobbing me off.  I wouldn't be so worried it's just that my mother had uterus cancer at 40 snd had a full hysterectomy, then her sister - my aunt died of uterus cancer at 56.  I don't want to worry but I can't help it thinking I might be missing the warning signs. Has anyone else had this kind of bleeding so far apart? Any info or help and advice would be much appreciated.  Thank you in advance

All menopause bleeding should be investigated, please make an appointment with your gp to have this investigated, especially with your family history.  This will probably be a scan at your local hospital x

Hi Jinkx - aw, this must be such a worry for you - I know what it’s like to have a family history that can seem like a permanent threat!

I’ve had several bouts of post menopausal bleeding (not as heavy as yours) but that turned out to be fibroids and polyps - the gynaecologist I saw said that whilst it’s not normal and needs investigation, it’s extremely common.

However, you’re not going to stop worrying until you get this re-investigated.  It would seem unlikely that a sinister cause would wait over another year to happen again, BUT I think if I were you I’d go back to the doctor and tell them it’s been 23 days so far this time (you don’t want to become anemic) and tell them how worried you are and ask that they consider sending you for some further investigations.  Worrying is just miserable and I’m sure if you remind them of your family history and express your reasonable concerns, they’ll be happy to refer you.  Chances are it’s nothing sinister but your mind certainly needs putting at rest if nothing else! Give them a call next week, or if it’s too much, urgent care over the weekend.

I would certainly see your Dr - tell him/her your concerns and be firm.  That much blood loss will be making you weak and I too think you may becone anemic - maybe a blood test just to check.

As Snow cat says it could be so many things and naturally the first step is to see GP.

Do take care.

It's over a year since your last one so this should be considered post menopausal bleeding which means you should be on the 2 week pathway.

Poor you :( That's a lot of blood you're losing. If it's that bad and you think your GP will fob you off, if it's particularly heavy this evening, for example, I'd think about going to see the out of hours doctor, who may well have a different take on your situation. Not sure if that doctor could refer you or be sent back to your GP but it is worth a shot, if I were you maybe I'd do that in your situation.
Good luck. I have health anxiety so I know how it feels to be overthinking every bloomin' thing.  As I say, good luck, and Take care.
