Vulval relief cushion discovery!
« on: August 13, 2025, 10:40:58 PM »

Hi everyone. I said I’d update you all if I found the answer to finding an effective vulval relief cushion.  I’ve tried a few donut types but I never found them that helpful.  I’m below the maximum weight suggested, but I still seem to sink into them, so that the hole then isn’t ’deep’ enough, and others didn’t seem to have the hole in the right place, so I multilated some of them!

I was telling a friend of mine all this and she said ‘what about pool noodles?’ Well, I got some (£10 for two) and I do think I might have cracked it!

They need some moulding into shape and tying together (I’m going to use gorilla tape) then cut off the excess ends - I need one on top of the other (hence the tying together) and I don’t know how long it’ll be comfortable for, but it felt ok on trial today.  The ‘hole’ is quite big (almost like a loo seat but oval shaped) but that’s good because I and the said friend have an idea that when the hole is smaller the vulva still has some pressure from the sides of the seat and this could cause more blood flow to the area which could aggravate the nerves - absolutely no idea if this is possible but it made sense to me at 2am, and that’s what using my other vulval relief cushion felt like it was doing.  Anyway just thought I’d mention as it’s relatively cheap way to try - if it doesn’t work you can always use them in the sea or pool on holiday! 😂

Thanks for posting Snowcat one to try.

I find at times if I sit on an unpadded ordinary seat that the area can go numb for a while so some pressing on something.

Good that you have talked to a friend too rather than not mention it all.

This sounds interesting do let us know how it does. I have an old coccyx fracture that is jolly painful so I wonder if it was the right shape it would alleviate pressure there too?
Here's hoping it works for you.

Thanks Minusminnie.  Yes I get that too - obviously some nerve involvement - numb I don’t mind - it’s when the numbness wears off that the trouble starts!

Mrsmitch - I injured my coccyx once too - very painful! Took over a year to improve but it’s fine now, but not a pain you forget! I think the noodle might help as you are completely suspended above the seat.  Just hoping I can use it in the car and won’t end up with my head scraping the roof and my knees wedged under the steering wheel! The noodles are about 3” deep so I got 2 but one might do you. Worth a try I’d think.  I’m just waiting to see what my mum thinks of it all when she comes over - knowing her she’ll have
Some ideas of her own - she’s never been one to be defeated - she’ll probably start knitting me something lol!

Hello Snowcat

I wonder if a child's toilet seat would work as well? I am thinking of the kind that we have for our grandson, it is small, sturdy and portable but also well padded. Just a thought and I congratulate you on your tenacity!

Wishing you well and take care.

That’s a good idea Kathleen! I did think of an inflatable loo seat but could just imagine it deflating at inappropriate times! I didn’t think of a child’s one though - didn’t know they were padded (it’s been a while since I had children!)
Where do you get them from please?

Hello again Snowcat.

I  bought the toilet seat from a charity shop,  it was only four pounds and the padding has pictures of sea creatures!

I am sure that they can be bought anywhere,  maybe have a Google and see what pops up.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Wishing you well and take care.
