Vertigo - Could it be Progesterone?
« on: August 07, 2025, 04:35:28 PM »

Hi Ladies, keen to get your input on this.  I’ve had a couple of spells of vertigo recently, in both cases it lasted about 15 minutes then felt fine.  I noticed on both occasions it was during the time of the month when I was taking progesterone.  Even though I’m post-menopausal my consultant recommended 2 x 100g of Utrogestan to be taken each day for the first ten days of the month, due to my mother having breast cancer.  On my most recently spell of vertigo I had taken the pills in the morning as forgot the night before. Could that be what’s causing it possibly?

I don't know about progesterone but I have experienced vertigo at a time of low/rapidly dropping estrogen the day my period started during temporary loss of access to my combined pill which I normally take continuously.

Had anything happened to disrupt your estrogen supply at the same time?

Your consultant is a keeper btw - I also plan to do sequential for life for health reasons once I retire my BCP.

I’m no really sure tbh.  I wasn’t absorbing my oestrogen gel and I’m taking Lenzetto atm.  Blood test next week to see if I’m absorbing…it's so hit and miss - the Lenzetto spray is not consistent so I’ve no idea how much I’m getting.

I had vertigo after heavy colds ............ I would know as I opened my eyes in the morning.  Awful.

As we age the Eustachian tubes may narrow could that be a reason?

Hi,

I always take my progesterone before bed. The one time I forgot so took it next morning I got vertigo for about an hour. I’m sure it was the progesterone and that I normally sleep through the woozy bit.

Thank you, that is very reassuring.  Your mind spins around looking for possible explanations.  I’m taking it at night now!

Interesting, that ‘could’ explain it.  I’m making sure I take the progesterone at night so if it happens again I’ll know it’s not that.  Thanks for your reply.

Thank you for posting that….I’m thinking that the double dose probably caused mine too.  Horrible feeling.
