I agree Sunday Girl. Years ago our GP did an annual medication check and general chit-chat, now it's handed over to a Pharmacist - ours is busy all the while, when I went to C him recently he had a 4 week waiting list to speak to patients. Our Pharmacist will certainly suggest if an appt should be necessary and we have a patient referral triage form if it's urgent [as mine was in April].

MayB orrla there is such a system on your Surgery web-site if U require to C a Nurse Practitioner or GP?  And everything that GPs do is monitored in some way or another, for safety as well as trying to plan ahead for the whole NHS.

If U are particularly worried that your information is being held somewhere U can ask to C your records under the Date Protection Act as well as asking why your GP no longer speaks to U about meds etc.. It mayB that if patients are particularly concerned GPs will do the annual review.

Pharmacists are really well qualified to dispense prescriptions from a GP, the Role has been extended in recent years to seeing patients in the Chemist shop 2 save waiting 2 C a Doctor - most have private rooms these days. Which was helpful when DH had shingles who confirmed my diagnosis  ;D and advised treatment.  Notes were then sent to our GP.

Pharmacists will discuss patient worries but they aren't being made to 'deal with hormones'.

As an aside: years ago our GP dispensed prescriptions directly, on the spot, although some hadn't done the Pharmacy Degree so those scripts had to be checked with a qualified pharmacist.

But you're not unwell. From what you posted originally, it was your GP practice who wanted to review your meds. It wasn't you who requested an appointment.

Don't be too harsh on pharmacists. Very often they know more about the actual  meds than GP's do.

I think you are missing my point.

GP did nothing while I was unwell!   He saw me, heard me talking, informed of yet another issue, and obviously thought all was normal. For a while, I thought I was dying, even asked him about care, and only by chance I clicked that's it must be hormones. Nothing to do with him but with some old friend who turned out antyvaxer and, after I whinge I don't know what's going on, why all goes downhill, said it all is because of vaccines... It got me thinking, so I checked with my diary what happened when. That led me to that cut down in Estrogen in 2018 by Meno Clinic... That dr, in 2022, cut my Testosterone and left NHS. Reflecting on it, she did not know much about hormones either. Watched me for years and did not connect. I asked some question, she didn't know. For example, bladder issues were unknown to her.

Pharmacist came about only now. This year. It's mid 2025.

Yes, I as well as I can be under circumstances but I could be much better if not all that neglect. ..

Yes, they dispense prescriptions, or not, but that's about it.

You have been badly let down and gaslit by the NHS that your multiple health issues were nothing to do with the lack of hormones.

I can totally understand someone with this history being frightened of having treatment inappropriately withdrawn again.

But what you do have now that you didn't before is knowledge, and in the very worst case if the NHS will no longer fund your treatment, you can hopefully seek out the care you need privately.

I know nobody should have to, but at least this option exists.

I don't think I'm missing the point at all.

You asked about why a pharmacist was doing your annual review and that is the basis of my answers.

The comments you've made since about your care by your GP have no bearing on the fact that I answered your original query.

I'm sorry you feel dismissed by your GP but pharmacists can, and do, have an important role in healthcare.

Ok, but I still wonder what exactly that appointment gave me, as a patient...🤔
