« on: July 22, 2025, 02:11:56 PM »

As above.

Is this some new NHS guidance now..?
Will she try to take it away?
I am 70 now.. What for she calls me? I am happy with what I take..

I would go armed with a printout of the NICE guidelines stating that there is no arbitrary age or duration based cut off for hormone therapy, that the risks vs benefits for that particular individual determine continuation of treatment, that treatment decisions should be shared i.e. not the clinician unilaterally imposing their will on a patient who is often better informed than they are, and have prepared a list of the ways in which treatment benefits you.

Our Surgery Pharmacist has done telephone reviews for 5 years, he has access to my medical records held by the GP and discusses how I've been in the last 12 months.  It saves the GPs time.

It may help you also to look up in advance the additional attributable risk of stroke conferred by being on tibolone.

From memory there was a large study showing 3 women on nothing had a stroke out of 1000 women, Vs 6 in 1000 on tibolone.

This makes 3 in 1000 extra strokes attributable to tibolone.

Which equates to an increase in risk of 0.3 percent.

My approach would be to ask whether they would be willing to sacrifice their own, or a male patient's, quality of life for a 0.3% risk of something.

All of my closest girlfriends who did not go on HRT are dead now!

I think I will just blow up if she'll make any attempts. They've let me down big way!

When UTIs started, not a word. Spine misdiagnosed three times, no help still.

If I didn't go private with both, spine and HRT, things would be far worst.

But, I might be winding myself unnecessarily, and it will be just procedural check up. It's tomorrow..

Thanks!

And perhaps remind them that they are a pharmacist not a doctor.

Hi
Same for me. I have a review with Pharmacy at my GP surgery. She does my GP and asks how I'm doing. No problem, in fact I give her advice  lol 😆

My last 3 yearly reviews have been done by the resident pharmacist. Last year was just a formality and took about 2 minutes. He just checked everything was OK with my meds and authorised another year of repeat prescriptions. He has no power to change anything without my consent and my doctors consultation. Got one next week so hopefully straight forward again.

I am back.

Yeah, she just checked against a form, ticked things off..

Learnt few things from me, I hope..  I find, at 70 I do not hold much😅

I got lectured on breast cancer, smoking, drinking... and left.

Done.👋

ps: why they waste money on this?

Why do U consider it to be a waste?  It saves a GP appt. and the Pharmacist can liaise or recommend an appt. directly.

Maybe, but it's employment of extra person who does nothing substantial, really, just checks off a form. She would not arrange appointment with dr re repeat for Estriol I need,  nor some other stuff... And made me wait 10 minutes..

My GP does not care for HRT, nor does know much about them. Years ago tried to discourage me hence I went to Meno Clinic where eventually they made a mess of it all,  so last year I had to go private, to an experienced consultant and asked to go by blood tests.. Are they now checking him? They didn't give a monkey when I was on too low dose, low, with issues showing up one after another..

I just wonder what exactly they help with?  ..unless this is a part of some bigger survey, it makes no sense to me.

Try not to look on it as employing people unnecessarily. Look on it as being someone who's doing the box ticking required by the NHS while the doctors are seeing patients who need treatment/examinations.

If every GP was required to do this themselves then the waiting time for an appointment would be much longer than it already is. We patients would then be complaining about the NHS even more than we currently do.

No, I can't look at it like that because, to me, it's very GP role to check if you are unwell or not. In case of women, hormones, as we all here know, play big part in that!

Making pharmacists deal with hormones is brushing women's issues aside... again!

But you're not unwell. From what you posted originally, it was your GP practice who wanted to review your meds. It wasn't you who requested an appointment.

Don't be too harsh on pharmacists. Very often they know more about the actual  meds than GP's do.
