Post meno and awful symptoms
« on: June 30, 2025, 01:48:57 PM »

Hi,

I was peri meno 10 years ago, got depression, anxiety and lost 2 stone, GP prescribed AD which made everything worse, after lots of internet searching realised it could be peri menopause.

Got Femoston from GP and didnt really touch the anxiety and depression side of it, went to a private specialist who prescribed gel and utrogestan, felt a little better but not myself, tried patches and then was given the coil, bled for 9 weeks and it expelled itself. After that got a fibroid removed, went to meno clinic at hospital and he advised stopping HRT to see what my own body would do. I stopped HRT in Feb 2020, didnt really suffer coming off it but then 2.5 years later got diagnosed with adenomyosis. No period since Nov 2022 but got a bled March 2024 and a polyp was removed. Tried desogestral and norethisterone and both made me depressed so stopped them, was advised to try zoladex but I declined

I am now 55 and In April this year after 2.5 year wait to BSGE centre the MDT came back and said they didnt think a hysterectomy would help my pain and they would like me to try zoladex, I was not keen as had read about the low mood, anyway I felt I was being gaslit by the consultant, agreed to have zoladex, first one put me into low mood, the 2nd injection gave me anxitey, depression, night sweats, insomnia and could not eat, went to GP who told me not to have the next injection but also found out I should have been given add back HRT.

The last injection was 16th May and have been in high anxiety and feeling awful since, GP put me on HRT last week - 50mg Evorel and 100mg Utrogestan every night, have been feeling rough ever since, just wondering do I need HRT or do I just ride out my own hormones trying to kick back in as post meno now and stop HRT.

I have read that zoladex takes the 28 days and then can take 12 weeks to fully get out of my system.

Any advise on if I should ride out HRT or not will help, I was ok before I took the injection

Have you considered tibolone?

It can work well in situations like yours.

Also it is most unusual to give zoladex to a 55 year old woman. Most are either postmenopausal or as good as dammit by this stage.

Was this done to treat pain, bleeding or both?

Hi Bombsh3ll I think that the Zoladex is to treat adenomyosis?

Hi Bombsh3ll

I was prescribed Tibolone first but took 3 and was so dizzy. I have them still so could try again & stop the evorel & utrrogesran.

I agree I have no faith in my consultant, she said if zoladex helped with the pain it would steer towards hysterectomy, she never offerred add back hrt either hence why my hormones have been shut down & now I am in heightened anxiety and depression, insomnia & night sweats.

It was given to treat pain.

I wish I never had the drug now, its ruining my marriage and i am off sick from wotk

I wake up with tye meno dreads like something bad is going to happen & shaking.
