Hi, I'm 57 and been on Evorel Sequi patches for 7 years. They stopped my periods completely, and I've only had one bleed back in 2020 that turned out to be due to a benign ovarian cyst.

Changed doctors last week, got told I can switch to Evorel Conti (apparently my last docs should have switched me, but their incompetence is another story lol). Finished my last pack of Sequi Tuesday night, so slapped on a Conti patch. Wednesday morning, I've got brown blood and clotting that's still going today.

I don't think it's anything to do with switching patches as it happened too soon. I've had a recent CA125 test as I've had worsening IBS since December and sudden weight loss, came back negative.

BUT. I'm still worried. Is it worth pestering my doctor? I'm worried they'll just say I'm being a hypochondriac

On its own I would not bat an eyelid about bleeding occurring in the first few months after changing the HRT regimen.

However with "IBS symptoms" in someone over 50 plus unexplained weight loss you do need further investigation including a scan of your abdomen and pelvis, and I would advocate strongly for this.

The bleeding may be entirely unrelated and should not derail thorough investigation of the above.

However you may also leverage the fact that you have remained on sequential for slightly longer than guidelines recommend.

(Actual risk of endometrial cancer in this instance is minuscule, and there are sufficient health benefits of sequential vs continuous application of progestogen for some individuals to choose sequential for the long term) however this may just help grease the wheels regarding referral.

Thank you, I hadn't really thought to connect the IBS with my current symptoms, but I've never lost weight before and anything that persuades my current doctor to take that seriously, as my last one just said I should be happy to lose weight  I've never been overweight in my life

The difference is losing weight without trying (even if overweight) or to put it another way, having tried all your life to lose weight and suddenly finding the same diet you've been on for years is working when you are in your 50's with new or worsening bowel symptoms.

Please don't put off getting this checked out.

Spoke to my doctor this morning, she's not worried about cancer but she's fast -tracking me for a scan. I'm so relieved I'm now with a GP who actually listens to me!
