I don’t have experience of stopping but I am thinking about it myself so I’m keen to hear how you get on.
I hope you feel great again soon!

Which symptom did you need to ease Mariab?  If your own hormones have balanced as my own have over the years, U may no longer require replacement.  As with VA it's a bit Trial and Error!

Fortunately I didn't need HRT.

Hrt was mainly for anxiety, general aches and pains, sleep, VA etc...
I'm on vagifeme which really helps so no probs there....hrt unfortunately didn't touch the anxiety,  citalopram has done that...I don't feel any worse at the moment  not having gel which is positive. And may indicate im.more balanced than before with out it CLKD as you have said...so fingers crossed it will continue that way.xx :)

I didn't stop but "had to" reduce my patch 3 times due to bleeds, down to 25mcg and symptoms came back.
I felt stuck so buried my head until last year.
I found I was 112 oestrogen blood level and Dr has been increasing my patches. I need more if anything as I still have symptoms, albeit better, but further improvement needed.

Hi ,
I stopped hrt cold turkey ln march still have a coil in and still use ovestin.
I had 7 years on hrt patches then gel was so sick of feeling absolutely crap everyday it only helped the hot flushes for me .
Never helped with anxiety or insomnia I take amitriptyline for that .

I got sick of the whole guessing game of am I using too much or not enough is this a side effect or something else so I quit to see how I was without it.
The first month or so was rough not so much menopause symptoms coming back but estrogen withdrawal my body had been used to using it , but slowly those symptoms eased I feel better in many ways but I am left with hot flushes not many in the day but the night sweats are on and off every night but I can handle it for now , biggest symptom that went away was the constant lightheaded feeling horrible fuzzy head , that was definitely the estrogel , I won’t say I will never go back on it but for now I definitely feel better without it I’m 51 but I had a very early menopause, I feel free of chasing the symptoms with the dose of hrt if you know what I mean.
Good luck hope it goes well for you x

I also gave up after 2 and half years.  Bleeding and sore breasts were my worst symptoms on the oestrogen patch.  I have the coil too and I'd leave that in until I'm 90 to make sure I don't have heavy bleeding ever again  ;D  I came off the patch over 6 months ago and I can tell that my own oestrogen levels are still spiking at times.  I got fed up guessing what amount of oestrogen patch I should be taking, given that I still had my own levels fluctuating.  I may well go back on the patches but it will be after my periods stop, whenever that may be.  I'm 52 and after my longest cycle of 88 days, I then reverted to a 26 day cycle and now boobs are sore again after 3 weeks so who knows what's going on.  I don't regret coming off the patches.  My mood is a bit lower but my stomach is doing better, bleeding is less heavy.  I think with the hrt its not going to cure all.  You'll end up trading some symptoms for others and for me the heavy bleeds were just too much to be dealing with.

Hi Mariab
I too was on HRT for a year and gave up, stopped cold turkey and got coil removed as soon as I could - about 3 weeks. I took it mainly to help with anxiety but also hot flushes etc but it did nothing for my anxiety in fact it increased my blood pressure so I would get anxious about that ! I didn't notice any particular withdrawal as I restarted citalopram (had been on previously) and alas it helped tremendously with the anxiety, still have flushes but not too bad and as long as the anxiety is under control I can live with that.  I just now use the oestrogen locally too, Vagifem and Estriol cream and I hope I never have to stop that !

It's nuts isn't it what we have to go through to find the answer......
I will continue to use vagifeme nit sure if I should keep the coil as my periods were getting lighter all the time...I only had it to have the eastrogen...
I am feeling actually not to bad so far....id love to hear how you ladies get on. :) :)

I would keep the mirena in until the product runs out.  That way should U need to return to oestrogen etc., you won't have to phaff.  Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary?

Yes I do keep a diary ..it seemed to be erratic so it's hard to pin point things...I will.keep the coil.in for now until.im really sure I do not need gel. :) :)

Sooo after a few weeks of no gel, I have noticed I am quite irritable and anxiety is still my friend apprently....not sure if the coil alone would cause this  or if this is withdrawal still ???...
I have some pretty stressful things going on at the moment..so the guessing game continues  ::)
