HRT only PPC changing to full PPC
« on: May 31, 2025, 07:44:26 AM »

This needs a roll eye emoji and a deep breath.

I bought a HRT only prepaid prescription certificate last July.   All good,  doesn't cover Testosterone but I knew that.

I am now on two other meds for a thyroid issue, I've been paying so far but yesterday finally got around to calling a the website suggested to upgrade from HRT only to full.

After queuing it turns out that you can't upgrade one to the other and I can't even buy a full PPC at this point as the system will "know" I've already got a PPC but won't know that it's HRT only  ::)

So I'm stuck paying prescription fees and my surgery insists on issuing only monthly amounts.

The lovely lady I spoke to said that I can claim costs back for 3 months when I do get a full PPC (July), however it was an offshore call centre and I couldn't understand her explanation.     She seemed to be saying that I need to get a form when I pay and then I can backdate the full PPC and claim the costs back?

Do I get that from the pharmacy?

Is this actually going to work as if the system won't let me buy a PPC now,  is it going to let me backdate it?

Seems barking and very much a "computer says no" scenario.

It would help me if you put what PPC means in the subject heading  ::).  I suggest going to the Pharmacy to ask the question, then let us know ;-)

I’ve got both. Similar situation to you, I previously bought the HRT cert and then entered the glorious thyroid arena! Bought the prescription pre-pay annual one at £114.00 and won’t renew the HRT one in July.

Ooh interesting I was told that I won't be able to buy a full cert as the system "will know" that I've got the HRT one already.    You obviously managed so it looks like it's worth a try.    Thank you 😊

I fear I may also be facing this situation soon, if I get my T4 (at least) on the NHS....

I'm tired of the constant problems with payment and authorization of funds. Even when I played games, it was easier with this. I just went to magius casino and chose proven payment methods, and that's it. I hope to find something similar for the pharmacy.

Is this actually going to work as if the system won't let me buy a PPC now,  is it going to let me backdate it?

You can backdate the new PPC and claim the fees, but pharmacies typically provide you with a refund form. It should work, just keep every receipt!
