Estriol 0.01% w/w vs Estriol 1mg?
« on: April 08, 2025, 11:37:13 PM »

I posted here recently saying that I had been getting flushing for the first time in 6 years of being on hrt and also feeling like my mental health was impacted (anxiety, irritability and the worst, a deep depression suddenly out of nowhere, nothing in my life to cause this)

The only change I can think of is I've started using an old tube of Estriol 1mg as my other one (Estriol 0.01% w/w  whatever that means) had run out.

Could it be one of two things:  Old tube of Estriol 1mg is too old?  (a couple of years and it was opened, but seems to be doing the job down there!)

Or:  Old tube of Estriol has a lot more oestrogen in it than the other one Estriol 0.01% w/w?

I just want to get back to normal.  Other than the estriol change, I had a bit of flushing for a few weeks recently and that's a change for me.  I've increased the estradiol patch by 25, feel a bit better so will see

edited to add, I've worked out it would be a 10 X increase in estriol for the same amount of cream

Hi the two estriol creams are the same strength if you use the advised dose. You need to use a smaller amount of the 1mg cream.

Very little is absorbed systemically. Where are you in your meno journey? Far more likely you're producing less oestrogen yourself.

I was using a lot!  So getting a lot more and not realising.

I reduced it right down today and flushed less and mental health has improved a lot.  Maybe the sudden change

thanks, it's a complicated picture, I did increase the patch and been feeling slightly better.

But at the same time today I reduced the estriol cream right down and seem to have turned a corner tonight.

I'll keep the patch increase and keep the estriol back to usual amount and see if improvement continues.  It was so sudden and no other external trigger, never happened to me before.

I think you're right that I might have needed more estradiol anyway, but also wonder if the estriol cream might have played a part in some of this as I would have been getting ten times the amount and it coincided with the sudden mood drop.

Time will tell, at least I seem to be coming back anyway  :o :)
