Weight gain experience on Evorel patch
« on: March 25, 2025, 09:01:05 PM »

HI
I’m looking for some experiences of different ladies who have noticed that they have increased weight since being using HRT? Iv been on Evorel 100 patch now for about 3 years and gradually had to increase from starting on the 50 strength one.I don’t have any issues other than I feel very bloated constantly and am heavier than Iv been pre HRT .Iv never really ever been overweight and it’s getting me down and despite me hearing from different people and reading in different places that Menopause itself  causes weight gain and not HRT itself , I am not convinced.Could anyone share any positives of them coming off it .

Hi Hairobics,

I've always exercised regularly and was able to manage my weight with exercise and a healthy diet. I saw some small changes in my body shape and weight in perimenopause. But when I started HRT It definitely made me feel increasingly bloated/swollen around my trunk and boobs.  No amount of exercise or diet changed that.  One of the reasons I started reducing my dose was because of huge (for me) painful/swollen boobs. I stopped HRT (as a trial) 2 months ago and I'm pretty much my previous size (prior to HRT) and feel much better for it. I can fit into my old clothes comfortably and just feel better about myself.

Thanks for your reply. That’s so positive to hear .Iv started to reduce down but at a time last week basic decided to trial coming off it .Its going to take a couple of months thinking be sensible about it .I am a bit worried about withdrawal effects but keeping my fingers crossed .im 57 nearly and Dr told me a while back that at my age most women are through it .Just don’t know why they would still prescribe it though now if they are saying that I’m probably through it by now ?Or do they still think it’s best for joint health etc? But puzzled really

The benefits of menopause hormone therapy extend way beyond immediate quality of life, which many prescribers are aware of and support patients using it as long as the net benefits for that individual are worthwhile - for many this is life long.

However the decision to take it is a personal choice and just because your doctor is offering it, you are under no obligation to take it if you prefer not to.

Equally just because one person feels they no longer need it at 57, this doesn't mean a blanket withdrawal of everyone's prescription at 57 would be appropriate as we are all individual with different needs and therapeutic goals.

Hi,

I found the opposite! Weight gain when I hit peri, weight I could not shift! Started HRT and boom, easy to lose weight again.
