Vaginal atrophy
« on: February 22, 2025, 12:02:59 AM »

Can Ovestin be used after urination maybe 6 times a day?
I am trying to find a good moisturiser as I am using sorbolene at the moment and feel maybe its not thick enough.
I also tried moogoo for psoriasis but it burned
I am 72 and my atrophy has got quite bad and intercourse is imposible

No, just use once at night with the applicator and apply some around the external bits. For daily use after urination i would apply a good moisturiser, YES products are good and you can get on prescription and online.

Morning.  If U need a barrier during the day, mayB try a thin layer of 'vaseline' to protect the urethra applied first thing then as necessary.

I find that adding an insertion of 'ovestin/estriol' mid-afternoon should symptoms niggle, plus 2 Nurofen helps ease symptoms, followed by 3-5 nights of insertion.  I use at night so that the product doesn't leak away ;-).

As Dierdre suggests, or Sudacrem ......... anything that will keep the area moist and protect from any aggravation from urine.  By the way, what colour is your P?

Let us know how you get on.  How long have U been using 'Ovestin'?

I would be careful about using sudocrem on sensitive genital tissues as it can be drying.

If you need a moisturizer there are products specifically designed for intimate use that are available on NHS prescription.

However they do not address the underlying cause which is lack of estrogen.

If there is a reason why you can't or don't want to be on systemic estrogen, and daily use of estriol cream is insufficient, you can also get vagifem pessaries on prescription to use in addition to the cream.

My P is light yellow I drink a lot of water.
I have tried sodocream and vaseline but they tend to drag on applying so mainly using sorbolene now.
Saw Gyno yesterday and she said no prolapse which I was concerned about as intercourse is impossible. its the atrophy only use ovestin twice a week and gave me a steroid cream, which I hate using as my skin is like tissue paper

Maybe up the use of ovestin to 3 times a week to start with. Give the increased dose time to work & increase again if necessary.

I use Aproderm barrier cream which may be available for you.

I was given steroids to use when things were at their worst I was terrified that they would do harm Used the cream exactly as directed and saw a massive improvement As soon as things got better I stopped using and changed to a different routine Still have the cream incase of a flare up I know how worrying it is just the word steroid is scarey

Coconut oil is the only moisturiser I can use in that area. You can apply that as often as you need but if you just pat your exterior parts after a wee, it will stay on quite a long time, but I do apply quite a few times during the day. Just buy the big organic jars for cooking with. If heat is an issue, obviously keep the tub in the fridge. I put a small amount in a little travel pot and keep it I my pocket or bag so I can apply wherever I am.

If as you say your atrophy is bad then you probably need more treatment than you are using and it can take a few month to take effect, moisturisers won't make it any better, they just sooth things.

This document will help you, I believe its been published in Australia too.
