3 months HRT
« on: February 27, 2025, 07:02:09 PM »

Been on Estrogel 2 pumps & 100mg utrogestan cyclical for 3 nearly 4 months. Nastiest late peri symptoms of hot flushes & no sleep are much better but have had no bleeds at all, before this they were erratic at best so could go 4 months with nothing then 2 a month for 6 months. Still getting hormonal migraines but I've always had them, probably more frequent now. Do I need to worry about not bleeding at all or just accept that if my body needs to if will do? Getting to see an actual doctor in person is next to impossible round here

R U in a City or built up area because DH and I don't have problems getting appts.?  Our Practice has 2-3,000 patients on their books.  If U can't get an appt w with a GP have U tried a Nurse Practitioner or requesting a referral to a dedicated menopause Clinic?

Can't help with the regime that you have been prescribed hopefully some1 will be along with advice.

In a middle sized town, subject to the 8am phone call of doom, no pre-bookable appointments till April and already none after or before work hours then. And mostly phone appointments with no time slot which I can't always answer at work  If you miss the call you start the whole process again. I can try in Easter hols if I need to see someone. I usually go to walk-in centre if I need something as you just walk-in, just take a book and have a break from the family for a few hours  :)

Just checked and it had 7,500 patients in 2017, but has now merged with two other practices under a private company so I'd imagine you're talking at
least 10,000 patients by now. Patient numbers are "unavailable" on NHS info.

Why question good fortune?!

You presumably always knew your periods would stop one day, so unless you are at an age where this would not be expected ie early 40's or younger this doesn't require a GP consultation.

You could try moving to continuous progesterone if you wanted - those with hormonal migraines are often better served by maintaining consistent, stable daily doses of hormones rather than seesawing up and down with progesterone.

Thanks, the headaches are throughout the time taking tablets and not taking them so I'm assuming that's my own body's additional hormones fluctuating alongside them. I wasn't sure if not ever having a bleed was an issue or not tbh, hence the question.

No, it certainly isn't, it will happen to all of us who live long enough.

Whilst sequential HRT often induces withdrawal bleeding, this doesn't always occur and withdrawal bleeding isn't medically necessary.

At some point your GP will probably encourage you to switch to continuous progesterone which is preferred for endometrial protection long term, and is designed to be blind free.
