Had my scan. I'll describe my experience a bit in case it helps others. A weird but painless experience. A few questions but other than the mechanics of telling you when the probe, as they called it, is in it's largely done in silence. I did read this can be the case due to the level of concentration needed. And you may find, just to prevent intrusions, they lock the door. There were two people - the sonographer and a nurse.
Initially I had the abdominal scan. They ask you to come with a full bladder for this. One recommendation is to drink 500ml of water 30 minutes prior to scan. In my case I went to the loo about an hour before and then had a couple of glasses of water. For the abdominal scan I just had to lower my waistbands. After I had the abdominal scan, I had to then go to the loo to empty my bladder then return for the vaginal scan. For this you need to sign a consent form.
On my return, they asked me to undress from the waist down. They put a curtain around you and give you like a giant paper towel to cover your modesty. On the bed they put a wedge, your bum goes at the top of the wedge, you put your head on the pillow, feet apart, knees bent. They get the probe. Some may find his a little intimidating to see but it's only a small part of it that goes in, and they sell more intimidating implements in Anne Summers. It is very well lubricated and inserts easily. Once in, they very gently move the probe to get all round views. I became quite focused on the light on the smoke alarm. I always think time stands still in these sort of situations but I arrived at the gynaecology department at 1:50 and was dressed and out of the hospital by 2.15.
Now it's just the wait til Sunday when I see the consultant, which I'm told will be thorough and if a biopsy is required it will be taken then.
