Unsure about progesterone dose
« on: January 05, 2025, 09:37:32 AM »

Hi I’m new here and it may of been covered. Im 50 still having periods well more irregular bleeds. I’m on 100mg of estradot just started testosterone and Gp advised taking 200mg of progesterone for 14 days with 14 days off. I haven’t started that yet, I’m worried about sleep as progesterone helps me sleep and how people have slept etc with the break? And if there is an alternative? Thank you ☺️

If you prefer you can just take 100mg every night instead of seesawing up and down every 2 weeks.

The only reason the progestogen is typically prescribed cyclically in perimenopause is to try and recreate an artificial menstrual cycle, in the hopes of producing more regular vs irregular bleeding. This is done for social reasons not medical necessity.

In practice this often doesn't work well as it is based on the myth of the 28 day cycle, which most premenopausal women don't even have, let alone trying to synchronise it with increasingly irregular cycles in perimenopause, which is rather like trying to time the stock market.

It is perfectly valid to choose sleep and hormonal stability above bleed pattern if this is your preference.

Thank you! I’ll continue taking 100 mg without the break as I was doing
