Happy New Year everyone. This is my first post and I’m looking for advice, I’m 62 soon to be 63 and still suffering from crippling flushing so much so I need to change uniforms half way through my shift I’m a nurse support working full time. HRT ( evoril conti patch) is the only thing that helps but at my age I’m having concerns about being on and off it numerous times over the last 10 or so years. I’ve been off it again for  4 months but I’m not sleeping , sweats are horrible and I feel miserable most of the time. My gp is happy to give me the patches again but I think that I need some reassurance from ladies my own age about restarting yet again. I just want to feel better again. I’ve tried various meds like antidepressants for flushes but hrt is the only thing that helps. I do suffer from anxiety and take Sertraline 100mg  for that , I also take amlopidine 5mg each day for my blood pressure. I seem to have an irrational fear about hrt. Sorry if I sound like a madwoman I need to get myself feeling normal again.

Hi Chocrane62. Guidelines now are that women should be allowed  HRT for as long as they need it. I am 70 and still on patches as, without them, I am a sweating, snivelly mess. What are your fears about using HRT long-term?

Hi Taz2
Thank you for your reply , I suffer from terrible anxiety and I think the bad press that hrt had years ago still creeps up on me which is irrational I know. I am very happy to hear that you are on hrt I just needed to hear from someone who is ages with me and is happily on hrt.
I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to me.

:welcomemm: Life can seem irrational until we learn more about what worries us.  Everything has risks even getting out of bed  ::).

Quality of Life!

HRT - can protect bones and heart.   It can be Trial and Error initially to find a regime that helps.  MayB deciding which symptom U would like to ease first B4 deciding what to ask your GP for.  Keeping a mood/food/symptom diary can also help to chart progress.

In the last couple of years DH and I have altered our diets; shop bought cakes, scones, croissants - now out because stooge slows my guts down.  In November I realised that meusli with milk was causing problems with mid-afternoon wind, so have altered to toast and butter at breakfast.

Do be aware of vaginal atrophy - read the threads here, make notes ;-).  Many medics have no clue about this condition which is often due to a loss of oestrogen. The body may become dry: inside and out; skin, scalp, deep in the ears, n nostrils, vagina ........ as well as muscles may become lax = aches and pains.

Let us know how you get on.

Now the important bit:  :cake:   :hbday:  >hands over plate< ;-)
