Just can’t sleep
« on: December 21, 2024, 07:21:25 PM »

Hello everyone, at least the plantar fasciitis is better!
But really struggling with sleep. I wake up for extended spells 1am-4am, really alert. It’s as it my body won’t find sleep mode now. I take oestrogel and Utrogestan, have long suspected the latter of unwanted side effects. Awake now at 3.20am…

Where in the World R U ....... it's 8.30 p.m. here

Worrying about not getting back to sleep can be a huge influence on whether you do/not  :-\.  Instead of laying there mayB read; listen to the radio; accept that this is all U need right now ........ my paternal Grandma was up at 5.00 a.m. every morning  ::)

Hi, thanks, yes worrying about it is guaranteed to make it worse. Listening to endless podcasts….
I think I’m in a doom loop of anxiety about it, feeling sorry for myself.
It’s just horrible that sleep has turned into fear rather than refuge

Hi, it could be the amount of utrogestan - I took 200mg and slept like a log 2 weeks a month then changed to 100mg and straight away sleep not as good. Then upped my magnesium glycinate to 200mg at night and sleeping better again. When I've been anxious about sleep I found drinking calm tea or sleepy tea an hour before bed helps me wind down. As a last resort something like promethazine (old class antihistamine) might help - GP prescribed this after surgery. I was in so much pain from the surgery hadn't slept in 2 weeks and this knocked me out completely! It's safer than sleeping tablets, not addictive and I now use it if I'm sick as my sleep always goes out the window then.

Have you thought of testosterone?
Dr Louise Newson has loads of free content on it, she actually uttered my symptoms, one of them is sleep.
For me oestrogen and progesterone are just not covering it.
I think Dr Newson said about a triangle of hormones.
I normally have a crap attention span but her content has me listening real good.

Thanks all! I did try testosterone a while back but didn't feel great with it.
I was on a cruise, and that "please help" message was on the first night when I slept for zero hours, OMG.
The on-board medic gave me an old-school anti histamine, and melatonin which really does the trick, but is strong and not a long term option.
A slightly niche question, but has anyone tried natural alternatives to melatonin? apparently pistachios have it...

I take edibles for sleep along with one progesterone.

1:1:1 thc, cbd, cbn they are called black lemonade. Pearls

I used to do melatonin but eventually even 10mg would not knock me out.

I often fall asleep on the couch cuz I just can’t make it bed before I get the sleepies

thanks, good to have ideas.
Yes, I'm keen not to get over-reliant on meds, as you say they stop working after a while

When I took Utrogestan for a trial period I couldn't sleep a wink some nights.

I've read a lot about how sedating it is  ;D ;D ;D

It is very much a stimulant when my body gets hold of it, for certain, it's not my imagination. It was a very stark difference because I sleep very well without progesterone and slept well before and after the trial period, but was wired all day and night on utrogestan.

I have used an anti-histamine 3 nights in a row to get back into a sleep pattern; worked for me.  Wondering whether I would sleep/not kept me awake I have been known to wake to see whether I've been asleep  ::)

IN recent weeks I've had a few nights of not sleeping; 1 due to restless leg syndrome, why didn't I get up to take pain relief sooner  :-\.  Other nights it simply is: sleeping for a few hours then awake  :-\

I did not sleep until I got my estrogen up much higher than the starvation rations they prescribe most women.

At last test it was 880pmol or around 240 in US numbers. I am now sleeping 6-7 hours a night which is amazing. To achieve this, I am on 200mcg patches PLUS 4 pumps of gel. I had to go private, there's no way I would get this on the NHS.

Many many women need more estrogen than the starvation rations they prescribe. There is excessive fear about endometrial cancer, leading to E dosages being way too low to help many women. Seek out private help from someone prepared to allow you to try higher doses. If they don't work, you can always come back down again - but at least you'll have tried it.

I am not sure, I am in Canada. So do they have cannabis stores in the UK or maybe online?
