SHBG and Boron

Hi,

anyone had any success with reducing a high SHBG with Boron supplements? Are there any known contraindications?

Interesting,  I've just googled Boron and SHBG, I wasn't aware of the impact of Boron.    My SHBG is high which I think is effecting the way I feel.

I haven’t tried Boron supplements - and this could be pure coincidence, but when I intentionally eat a lot of high boron foods my SHBG levels come down a little. When I stopped they crept back up again. My SHBG isn’t abnormally high but I was trying to get my FAI above 2% while keeping my T levels below the upper limit.

Hi Ladies,

I am not sure what testing has been done, but some must exist in terms of SHBG being lowered by boron somewhere. 

Emzib0b -are there any particularly high boron foods?

Hi Pepperminty,

Prune juice is at the top of the list but I rarely touch fruit juice! Avocados, apples, peaches, peanuts/peanut butter and prunes were a regular feature for me as well as a good mix of fruit and veg which are all a good source of boron to a greater or lesser degree.

SHBG has been shown to reduce in response to boron at 12mg/day

But if you are taking a lot of meds like  HRT and thyroid meds, the effect might not be enough to reduce the SHBG. If you are not taking all that and still have randomly high SHBG it is more likely to work.

Boron is very safe and is really good for bone health as well.

I am on HRT but worth a try taking Boron, but if I do I will start on a smaller dose and work my way up gradually.  I just wish more research and support will be given and more options for us all - but don't get me started on the inequality between men and women's health.  ;D
