PERIODS ON FEMOSTON CONTI 1/5
« on: November 29, 2024, 04:23:20 PM »

Hello,

I'm completely new to the forum. After late onset perimenopause symptoms (at 55), and still getting periods, I started on HRT. Can't remember the type I was on previously but have been on for a few years Femoston Conti 1/5. Yesterday, at 59, during a HRT review, I told the nurse that I've still been getting periods for at least 2 years whilst on HRT. She's told me to stop the HRT (cold turkey rather than weaning myself off) for at least 6 weeks and has arranged  for me to have a scan some time after then. Was kind of terrified at first, then got to thinking it is more than likely Endometrial Hyperplasia - thickening of the womb. Really hope my former perimenopausal symptoms don't return, which were mainly major weepiness, depression, anxiety and insomnia. Have got myself a herbal supplement to help whilst off the HRT.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Jan

Hi the bleeding is likely because you haven’t reached full menopause… 12 months without a period. Not everyone is menopausal at 55.

Can you post this in the “ All things menopause “ section as you might get more answers there ?

A) this shouldn't be treated as postmenopausal bleeding as you aren't postmenopausal if your cycle has never stopped.

And

B) Even if this was postmenopausal bleeding, current guidelines state that HRT does not need to be stopped whilst awaiting a scan.

I would simply continue your treatment and let your GP know.
