Perimenopause Parathesia
« on: September 14, 2024, 07:56:11 AM »

I am 50yrs old and recently I started having all sort of medical issues from tightness in the chest, tingling on the left side of my body, feeling like I an going to die.  All tests that I have done and might I add there are many have returned normal results. The parathesia  got so bad that I went to see a neurosurgeon who following a review of my MRI results referred me to a neurologist.  To be brief, after several tests the neurologist advised there was nothing wrong with me physiologically- it's all in my head.

Am I going crazy?

Nope.  Not at all.  how DARE a medic even suggest such a thing in the 21st century  >:(.   :beat: :beat: :beat:

OK where is the parathesia and has it been diagnosed as that?

Was the MRI the whole body scan?

For example. there is a condition: carpal tunnel syndrome: which may occur during pregnancy and is common in peri menopause.  Typically the sufferer hangs the hands over the side of the bed to gain relief.  I don't know whether this would show on MRI ..........

Do u have indigestion or acid reflux because these can manifest as chest 'problems'.  Tingling can be caused by all kinds of issues, something as small as a nerve in the neck which momentarily causes pain/sensations.  When my neck nips it's over in an instant, nothing to show a GP at all.

U could self refer to a physio who can check your gait.  Something as simple as the 'wrong' shoes may sometimes cause weird symptoms.  Also sitting incorrectly during the day, or needing a new mattress ..........

Thank you.  The MRI was a whole body scan.  No nerve compression

Hi JayBlue. I have paresthesia linked to my fibromyalgia. Have you any fibro symptoms? Also do you suffer from anxiety which can also cause parathesia. It wasn't helpful to be told that it's all in your head but it is very good news that your symptoms are not caused by a neurological condition such as brain tumour or MS. I appreciate this doesn't solve the problem though. How does it impact on your life at the moment?
