Hi all! I am a new member to this forum. I am 52 and post menopausal. I have been post menopausal for over 2 years. Things started to get sever late last year. I have always had general anxiety but the anxiety I have now is a whole new level for me. I have awful thoughts like I am losing my mind and going crazy which scares me even more. I feel life has become so monotonous and that cause me more anxiety. I don't like myself much in fact there are days I wish I wasn't here. I am constantly a emotional mess. This has to be the worse I have ever felt in my life. I feel like I am affecting my husband because he has no drive either.

I have tried everything to calm my anxiety but nothing seems to stick. I tried to get back on an SSRI to help. I started with a half of a pill. I felt fine most of the day but by evening I was shaking having intrusive thoughts, nauseous, dry heaving, and couldn't sit still. My husband was trying to get me to lie down and let it pass but I just couldn't. I don't know how but I finally did lay down and fall asleep.  That's when I decided to look into BHRT and thought this would help. I have been on it for about a month and though my symptoms aren't screaming like they were they are still there and causing me issues. I talked with my doctor and she said that it can take 2-3 months before I notice any improvement. Oh and the symptoms can get worse. Well apparently I am on the 3 month with worsening symptoms roller coaster.

Is this true that it can take that long for the body to adjust?  I just want relief and to feel good again. I want to be able to go and do things. Please tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading. Any encouragement is greatly appreciated and desperately needed before I go off the deep end!!!

Yes it can. My anxiety took the full 3 months to go completely. Barely noticeable improvement for the first month then very much up and down for the next two. What hrt are you on and what dose?

Hi Sheila!
Thank you for letting me know 1. that I am not alone and 2. that it can take 3 months which I am not happy about. :(

I am on 100mg of progesterone on for 6 days off one, 0.2 mg/ml of Bi-Est cream on for 6 days off one and 5 mcg of SRT3 everyday. My doctor also put me on some supplements too.

How did you make it through because I am having an awful time.

The estrogen you are using is non standardised treatment and may not be as effective as regulated prescription products.

If it does work for you that's great, there's no need to change anything, however if you don't get the results you are hoping for, why not try one of the standard pills patches or gels available which also contain identical 17 beta estradiol to what our bodies produce.

These offer more reliable dosing that can be increased stepwise to achieve the desired effect.

My doctor put me on the cream as she said it is easier to increase or decrease the dose. Since I just started this protocol a month ago, I am not sure how to know if it is not working or not. I see my doctor at the end of October to reevaluate my blood tests and protocol. I will keep what you said readily available when I see her in October.

BHRT stands for Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy. BHRT is a type of hormone replacement therapy that uses natural, bioidentical hormones to supplement the body’s declining hormone production. These hormones are chemically identical to the ones produced by the human body, making them a more natural alternative to conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

I hope this helps explain it.

There is a supplement called L-theanine that helps calm you. You can take up to 10 a day. I have only taken at the most 5. You can also try Ashwagandha which is all natural. It didn't agree with me so I don't take it.

You can also do diaphragmatic breathing. There are YouTube videos on it. I find that it helps too.

Progesterone is suppose to help with anxiety and insomnia. I haven't looked into if there are any side effects because my anxiety will kick in and convince me I have them. 🥴 I have been using it for over a month and haven't noticed anything but my dose was just upped which I start tomorrow. I will let you know if I notice anything odd.

I hope this gives you a place to start.

I've had cyclical anxiety since 11 when my periods began.   My 1st panic attack was aged 3.

When anxiety floors me I have an emergency tablet to take.

I am curious as to what your emergency tablet is? I wish we all could have one of those. I do take Ativan if it gets really really bad because it can become very addicting. The more you use it the more the body adapts and the higher the dose you will need to get the same affect. Some doctors will only prescribe 30 days worth.
